Guest guest
i, they aren't difficult to make, they are just bloody labor intensive. My three sisters and mom would get together for a weekend. Mom started the meat and the Dough..(masa) before we would all arrive on Friday evening. We would be up til about 3 in the morning making them. Sleep for a couple of hours and then start in on the afternoon going all night. We would make approximately 12 doz tamales for all of us to split and to eat at moms for christmas. I'll tell you, it was a pain in the back, legs and arse, but it was also some of the best memories I have! Its been about 5 years since we have had a tamale fest! I think when I recover from my surgery, I might regain some of the energy my weight has sapped from me, and propose a weekend pajama party with my sisters! Guest guest
WOW, what a concept. That would be sooo awesome. It's been so long since I've even imagined myself DOING anything adventurous of just fun!! I'm realizing just how limited I have become and it's kind of scary. I've always been the kind of person in that poem about " wearing purple " when one gets old, only in many ways I was born " wearing purple " , but in the last ten years.... When did you post ops start getting that aspect of your life back? Kathy sen BMI 58, 352.5 lbs Surgery scheduled Nov 19th Dr. Welker > Theresa, > Let me know when and I will bring Kathy with me!! Guest guest
When did you post ops start getting that aspect of your life back?>>>>>> Kathy, I think by the time I had lost 40 lbs I was moving around alot more in less pain. By the time I was 60 lbs down, I was REALLY moving and more active, doing things I had not done for years. I remember that poem about " When I am an old woman I shall wear purple " .....been a long time! By the time youve lost about half your excess weight you will be raring to go! (and maybe way before that too!) Life is really exciting, Kathy, as the weight peels off and you become more active. Hugs, Judie
Guest guest
Hi i, I am from New Mexico, and can I tell you about making tamales! Tamales have been made in my family for generations. There are many variations depending on who's family is making them. I will send you my recipe privately because I wouldn't want to start a tamale war. To answer your question they require alot of work to put together. But the recipe is simple enough. > Are tamales hard to make???? > > If not could someone share a recipe with me? > > i

Guest guest
A good friend of mine does the tamales thing every year. Her mother actually does it but is teaching my friend because she's the next generation. It takes 3 days total because they make enough to freeze for the rest of the year. I thought it was just her family but now know better! Is it a cultural tradition? Her mom is from Mexico. I think it's fantastic and the tamales are absolutely EXCELLENT - 100 times better than store-bought. dee __________________________________________________

Guest guest
So come on now all of you tamale makers....enough already with this tamale talk!! How about sharing some authentic, tried and true recipes? You're making me hungry already. I'm from PA and lived for a while in Houston where I was introduced to Mexican food and LOVE it. My son can make some mean chicken and steak fajitas and guacamole. I never tried making tamales except for a recipe from a cook book that was less than satisfactory. So share those recipes already....(or is that off the subject for this group???) Doris in PA Hoping for the DS
