I was walking within 3 hours of surgery and have done more and more each day

since. I had to wait 8 weeks before working out. I don't stay away from

sugar, but I also dont crave it anymore and only have it occasionally. I eat

what I want but it seems to be highly protein...maybe our body craves what we

need...LOL!

I ate eggs and toast and chicken and mashed potatoes at 7 to 10 days post op.

Before then I mostly had broth and juices and very soft stuff. But I only ate a

bite or two. Then I started eating a little bit more and ate very normal food.

Soft food like meat loaf was good, shrimp went down very well as did fish. I'd

eat a bite or two of things. Eggs were a staple for me for weeks. Don't worry

you'll be eating fine before you know it.

This is my 1st email into this group. I have my 1st consultation 11-1.

I want to thank Marty for the info.

How soon after the surgery could you start walking and/or exercising? Do

you stay away from all sugars?

Re: post op ?

I am wondering how soon you are able to eat like an

egg and toasts or ham, chicken, potatoes. Since I am

having surgery out of state I want to shop before hand

so the house is well supplied so I don't have to go

out right away when I get home. I am trying to get an

idea of foods to purchase and I have had this

nightmare that I have to go weeks without real food(I

think it because my friend Ihad the RNY) anyways if

anyone of you post op could jelp me with this I'd sure

appreciate it. My surgery is 2 weeks from today.

OOOOOH am I getting nervous.

Thanks

I was walking right away. Not far at first, then within a week I was walking

a few blocks at a time (pre-op, I had to drive the 3 blocks to our community

pool. Post-op, especially two weeks after when I could go in the water, I

was walking there and back, twice a day AND doing 1-2 hours of pool jogging

a day.) Stay away from the abdominal exercises at the beginning;CHECK WITH

YOUR SURGEON AS TO WHEN TO START THOSE! If it seems as if I'm an

exercisaholic, I'm anything but; my dh has to wheedle, or bully, me into

going to the gym twice a week. But the water jogging or aerobics is

no-impact and an easy way of getting it in.

As to the sugars, I was a chocoholic pre-op, but decided the proteins had to

come first. By the time I got those in, I really didn't have much desire, or

room, for sweets, not even fruits which I also love. I'm just now, at 3 1/2

months, starting to get in a fruit a day. As to other sweets, I must admit,

I've developed a taste for Krispy Kreme donuts (thanks to Judie and Mike

Hensel!). Might have one once every other week. Seems to knock me off off

plateaus;DON'T ASK ME WHY! Otherwise I'm happy with my proteins .

Dear ,

Don't buy too much perishable food before having surgery. I went

back to work full-time 11 days post-op. Hopefully, you shouldn't be

housebound too long. The first few days home from the hospital, I

ate scrambled eggs (sometimes with crispy toast/butter), sometimes I

melted some cheese into them. I also ate tuna and egg salad and

peanut butter on melba toast. I had some soups on hand like lentil,

clam chowder, bean and bacon and split pea. Egg Drop soup is a good

takeout item immediately post-op. Cream of Wheat was easy to digest.

I liked V-8 juice and had some Gatorade on hand that I drank watered

down. Lemonade (Snapple Diet) also went down well. I found that

some of my tastes changed. You really won't know what will sit well

with you until after surgery as everyone is different. I was eating

thinly sliced deli turkey and ham rolled with some swiss cheese about

10 days post-op. I ate " real " food right away. Good luck.
