<<I am going to research this Scopinaro px., but I do not feel comfortable with

it. I wanted the quality of life one gets with the DS.>>

Pam,

I had my surgery last March 19. Due to lack of blood flow to my duodenum (due

to scar tissue with 30 year old gall bladder surgery) and I ended up with

basically the Scorpinaro just as your doctor said you could. I cried when Dr.

Maguire told me. I had so wanted to keep my pyloric valve and have a normal

eating life. Well, here I am nearly 7 months later and about 100 lbs. down. I

feel wonderful and if I didn't know that I had something go wrong, I'd assume I

had the DS. I eat anything and everything. I have no problems with eating,

even sugar. My Dr. said I probably wouldn't have any dumping and I don't. I

hang out with the Maguire DS group and spend a LOT of time with the ladies. I

am doing every bit as well as they are. In fact, I'm doing better. I have next

to no gas problems, no serious odor problems, have never thrown up etc. I'm 54

years old and the only thing for me was a slow recovery as far as regaining my

strength. It was 8 to 10 weeks before I had energy. But I don't work and had b

een very sedentary so I'm sure that was part of it. I started at 311 and am

about 212 today. I know the insurance deal is a consideration, but as far as

ending up with this surgery I wouldn't worry about it. Would I prefer to have

had the DS? Sure. But in my case (and maybe in yours) I had no choice. I'm

glad I got this surgery rather than an RNY. I hope I put your mind at ease a

little. I didn't really research this because it happened to me and there

wasn't anything I could do about it. I'm a Christian and I just decided to

trust God rather than obsess about it. God bless you and I hope you make your

decision and find peace.
