I'm confused? It's one of the allowed probiotics, but yes, it is a FRIENDLY yeast, which, among other things, eats Candida for lunch.http://en.wikipedia .org/wiki/ Saccharomyces_ boulardiihas quite a bit of information about it. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
Guest guest
wow, I really don't know. I've never heard any reason ever why you would ever have to discontinue it, or time limit it. I think it's like saying, after awhile you shouldn't eat yogurt again.. people eat yogurt their whole lives. ?Best, How long can we really take this supplement for? Guest guest
Hey , It's important to keep in mind that whole foods like yogurt is different than a supplement. A supplement is one isolated item whereas a whole food is many components- it breaks down totally differently in the body. Sometimes using S Boulardii for months and months on end can cause other yeasts (even if they are good) to over grow. This doesn't happen to all.. It's just something we should all keep in mind as we try to normalize our gut ecology. Jodi > > > > Is s. boulardii a probiotic? Guest guest
Is s. boulardii primarily for help with "D" due to yeast overgrowth? My son has IBS-C. I can't say if he has yeast overgrowth or not. His GI MD tested for it and it was negative. But, I have heard that the tests are not conclusive. His tongue is not white. He was/is TOTALLY hooked on carbs--sweets, bread, etc. (Not that we have any in the house.) Over the years he had plenty of antibiotics and immunizations, and he was premature. He is from Russia and we adopted him at 2 1/2 years old and although he came from a good orphanage, circumstances were certainly not optimum. Any thoughts? Thanks,Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TDate: Sat, 01 May 2010 14:25:38 -0500To: <BTVC-SCD >Subject: Re: s boulardii At 01:48 AM 4/29/2010, you wrote:Is s. boulardii a probiotic? Guest guest
, Well there is a difference between good yeasts and good bacteria for one. Yeasts have a propensity to over-grow. L. Acidophilous for instance in supplement form doesn't really reach the small intestine whereas in SCD yogurt it sort of has a " protective suit " where it can really get down there. Fermented food is absolutely %100 different than supplements just by the chemical make-up of it! To me fermentation is pretty straight fwd- take something, throw in a pot/jar add salt or not and you're done. Jodi > > > > > > > > Is s. boulardii a probiotic?
