Guest guest
my son still has brachy but his plagio has pretty much resolved. he wore his helmet for 3 months. his asymetry is now 1mm but his CI is 89From: babymonkey_ny <devlindumpling@...>Subject: Brachy without the flatnessPlagiocephaly Date: Saturday, May 16, 2009, 9:12 PM This may be a stupid question, but is it possible for a baby to have the brachy width deformity without the flatness in the back of the head? My friend has a baby that looks like he has brachy from the front, but there is some roundness going on in the back. And if it is possible, would you tell your friend you think her baby has brachy? Guest guest
I am no expert but I don't think that brachy means that the head has to be flat in the back. My understanding is that if the length to width ratio is high, then the baby has brachy. Would your friend's baby benefit from a helmet/band? Probably since it would prevent his head from getting wider and redirect the growth to the back of the head where there needs to be more length. I don't know how close your friend is to you, but looking at the top view of her baby's head, does it look wider than it should? (The length should be 2/3 longer than the width). Guest guest
I believe that different variations of races have different degrees of brachy. My friend recently sent me a link to some artistic drawings by an anthropologist who had done a lot of research into physical characteristics of people from around the world. Some had wider heads than others. So, it's possible for there to be some genetic variation on width. If I can find the link, I'll post it. It was very interesting. Could that be what you are seeing?
