Guest guest
Hi TC, I have a yogurt maker, but I've been experimenting with the oven method, because I can't make very much yogurt in the yogurt maker, and I end up making it almost every other day. I'm still trying to figure out which bulb to use. Most people say a 40 watt or 60 watt bulb should work well enough to heat your oven, but I tried a 75 watt and it still wasn't quite at 100 degrees. I'm going to try a 100 watt to see if that works. I think it takes some experimenting. FYI, don't make my silly mistake and use an energy efficient bulb, since they don't give off enough heat. However, I know they're going to phase out incandescent bulbs eventually, though not for a few years, but even so, if I perfect my yogurt making in the oven, eventually I'll have to go a different route. Many people use a dehydrator for their yogurt that they can make in large quantities. I'm looking into doing that, but they're expensive. Also in the research that I've done on dehydrators, some of the plastic ones have concerns of being made with plastic that contain BPA, and the stainless steel ones are even more expensive. Whatever you decide, I hope your yogurt making experience goes well. Good luck! Take care, Amber > > Hello. I am new here. My husband was diagnosed two weeks ago and there began my research. I get conflicting opinions on the referall for that yogurt machine. Its costly so I'd like to see how the oven yogurt method works for people. Husbands not a huge yogurt fan, but after two weeks and looking forward not having any type of dairy but cheese I think he'll like it. > > I've tried to search your message boards but I am not seeing my question. > > Thank you, > > TC >
Guest guest
Amber, Have you tried turning on your oven right at the start, at the lowest setting, just for a minute or two to bring the heat up? That's what I do. If I didn't I don't know if just the bulb alone would bring it up to 100 deg. I also cover the back element with the vent to hold the heat in. This keeps my temp hovering right around the 100 deg mark. And I use the 60 watt bulb. Guest guest
We ended up getting the 2 QT Yogourmet at http://www.digestivewellness.com/itempage-1853-24-13-1652.html. They also sell 2 QT glass jars (with a plastic lid) which fit the machine perfectly and are a far sight cheaper than other offerings I searched for. > > > > Hello. I am new here.
