Guest guest
> Okay, I received my non-dairy yogurt starter today and I'm about to purchase a yogurt maker. I'm going to try making goat milk yogurt first and see how that goes. Is the Donvier a good yogurt maker to purchase? NO. Do not recommend it at all. And the containers are plastic not glass and they break after normal usage in the dishwasher - that is, not immediately, but they really do not last very long. And you probably need a dimmer. The timer is good though. The easiest way to do it is using the oven light. (Or an excalibur but that is a lot more money.) > It looks like it has glass containers which I prefer over plastic, and it has an automatic timer so that might help with my short term memory problems..... Does anyone here have one that could give me the thumbs up or thumbs down on this model? > > Thanks! > > Tamra in Gilroy > FMS, CFIDS, PI-IBS > SCD Day - 46 > LDN Day 222 > > > > ------------------------------------ > >
Guest guest
I have been using this cheapie $18.88 yogurt maker from WalMart: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5893631 I've taken the temp a couple of times while using it and it's been exactly 110 & #730;F each time. It comes with seven small glass jars but I like using a 7 cup glass Pyrex bowl that fits perfectly in the machine. I figured for that price I didn't have much to lose and could always return it if it wasn't satisfied with it. V
Guest guest
Do you use a dimmer, or is it just always right on the temp as you mentioned? Guest guest
Oven method for making yogurt. Get a 60 watt bulb for your oven and put it in. Turn on your oven light. Do the normal prep. for yogurt. Put the milk and the starter in their containers. And then place them in the oven near the light. 24 hours + later, voila SCD yogurt. (Obviously do this at a quiet time you don't need to use the oven every few hours.) Mara
Guest guest
Even if it doesn't last too long, it seems like a good way to get started. And at that price, it doesn't owe you a lot if it does keel over after awhile. , No dimmer. Just plug in and push the on button. Was making another batch today so decided to check the temp again: exactly 110. I've been really happy with it. We'll see how long an $18.88 yogurt maker lasts though, he he.
