Guest guest
The only thing I can suggest is to try starting out with just basic SCD candida dieting and see if it helps.www.pecanbread.com go there and click on how to do SCD, then click on yeast and scroll to the bottom for a link to the candida diet. Try it out for a few days, focusing more on meats, fish and very small portions of easy to digest veggies. This is what I did -- I've lost a good amount of weight, but was able to keep a lot of muscle. It's a start anyway. Also, look into some breathing exercises for any stress. __________________________________________________________________ CD SCD 5 months Lialda, Purinethol Freeda Vitamins, L. I guess I've been continuously bleeding since June minus the time I was on mesalamine before I had an allergic reaction to it. I seem to be prednisone dependent - got symptoms back at 5mg, went back up to 10mg but I'm afraid to go any higher again due to yeast (and side effects). I have had a coated white tongue since starting prednisone. Cutting out carbs helps, but leaves me drained, plus I've been losing about a pound a day for the last week or two. So I can't keep it up! I also tried raw garlic, which I think totally screwed things up because I got a lot more pain and new D after that. Lemon juice seems to be the same. I was on clotrimazole for thrush, but I read that taking anti-yeast meds can be very harsh, and I want to heal up more before bringing in the big guns. Not sure if this is counterproductive since yeasts could be causing the issues that I am waiting to heal from. People have suggested nystatin too, but I may have had a reaction to that in the past. My concern is that the yeasts are contributing to the UC. If they are, it seems counterproductive to stay on the prednisone, but I don't want to go further into flare. My gastroenterologist wants me to go onto Azathioprone. My naturopath wants me to go onto LDN, and possibly start taking more gut healing supplements. At this point, I just want to feel better and stop losing weight. My inflamation markers were within normal range with my last blood test, even though I was still bleeding, and my gastroenterologist thinks I might have IBS as well as IBD. I think inflamation and pain perception/stress has a lot to do with it because around my period or if I am stressed, things get WAY worse - more blood, more pain, painful to stand up, sit, or walk, and back spasms. I have also cut out all dairy including yogurt since I think it may have caused issues before when I went too fast. I'm taking a probiotic though and eating it with butter/fats so that it makes it further into the gut. I'm continuing to research the drugs and I'll have to make a decision soon. I know this is not a forum for conversations about drugs, and people have already given me some good things to think about. I was just curious what anyone might think given their knowledge base (as we are all required to become quite knowledgeable about IBS/IBD through this experience!) , and my situation. Guest guest
Hi Kat I am a bit dumb when it comes to yeast problems. But is that the same as Candida. If it is you will not be able to take LDN until you get rid off it. Guest guest
I'm continuing to research the drugs and I'll have to make a decision soon. I know this is not a forum for conversations about drugs, and people have already given me some good things to think about. I was just curious what anyone might think given their knowledge base (as we are all required to become quite knowledgeable about IBS/IBD through this experience!), and my situation. I went through a similar situation just recently. I had been having D pretty much constant for months and months, and the diet alone just didn't seem to be making things better, even when I cut out nearly everything and went on the intro diet. Although I was (and still am) opposed to meds, my parents, GI doctor and I all decided that I really needed to stop the D, and stop losing weight, especially since this is the time I need to be growing. I'm now on azathioprine, and also on prednisone since the azathioprine itself wasn't enough to stop the D. With the help of the meds, I'm hoping to introduce a larger variety of foods to my diet (staying SCD legal of course) so that I will hopefully have less stress and get more enjoyment out of my food. I think there comes a point where you have to weigh out what is most important to you; staying med free, or enjoying your food, or any number of other factors that play into all of this. I definitely don't want to be on these meds for long, but for now, I'm content to let them control my symptoms so I can have a little more variety in my foods and not worry so much about how every little thing I put into my mouth is going to affect me. Again, still definitely staying SCD! Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 35 mg 1x per day

Guest guest
Wow, that's a lot cheaper than what I paid for LDN! I paid $165 for 200 capsules. I could never afford it if it weren't for insurance. It's hard to get prescribed because most doctors don't know anything about it, mainly because to many doctors get their drug information from Big Pharma. Naltrexone is out of patent, and therefore, there is no money to be made on research on it. It's also pretty cheap -- compounded LDN runs about $60 for a three month supply. I thought $40 for a month's supply was bad when I first started it and Blue Cross paid for it.It's cheaper NOT to go through insurance in many cases because it's such a cheap, generic drug.I now get it mailed to me from Irmat's Phramacy in NYC for approximate the price Marilyn quoted. A lot of people do the same from Skip's Pharmacy in Boca Raton, FL -- my husband gets it there, and two of our cats will just start it tonight, one for pancreatitis, one for cancer.I get mine from Irmat's because they will compound it with acidophilus as a filler, and Skip doesn't.n> ________________________________> > To: BTVC-SCD > Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 11:37:31 PM> Subject: Re: Re: Decision about meds, was Re: dccc/yeast>>  > At 02:33 PM 4/9/2010, you wrote:>> What is LDN and what does it do?> LDN is low dose naltrexone.>> www.ncbi.nlm. nih.gov/pubmed/ 17222320>> is a study which might interest you.
