Guest guest
Hi Jodi, I am glade you enjoyed Dr Cowan's summary of nutritional diets, he is a very talented doctor. I only wish he wasn't located so far away in San Francisco, but our doctor is excellent too. I have come to realize that our doctor is a kind of a disciple (for lack of a better word) of Cowan's. You said, >He advocates giving raw milk to >infants and young children. I thought that this was not healthy for >them because of the risk of it carrying bacteria that they may not >be able to digest or fight off. I am not well-informed in this >area, so I may be wrong about this. Only recently have I begun to really look into the raw milk side of things. Jean supplied me with some good information on raw milk which I shared with our doctor. He told us that he has been a big believer in it so long as you can get a supply of it. That's why he never brought it up because it is not allowed to be sold in most states, but they usually allow aged raw cheeses ( frequently eats raw cheese). He agrees with Jean's assessment that raw milk is far safer than pasteurized milk and definitely more nutritious. Many states are starting to remove the ban on sale of raw milk, but politics are involved since raw milk farmers are invading market share of pasteurized farmers who are trying to put up every roadblock possible. As usual the health conscious state of California is leading the way, several years ago they legalized its sale and now more states are following its foot steps. There are many studies showing raw milk has far less bacteria than pasteurized. For more information on raw milk and bacteria, go to the following web sites: http://www.organicpastures.com/whyraw/ http://www.organicpastures.com/labtests/ (check out the rest of the web site) http://www.realmilk.com/spring2004.html If you can't buy raw milk in the state where you live, then you can now " legally " have it shipped frozen from the Organic Pastures Farm whose web site is listed above. We recently started doing it, a bit expensive but delicious. Our doctor is also excited about being able to direct his clients to this new source of " legal " raw milk. In the past to get around this " legal " issue many individuals went through the laborious task of setting up a coop to buy a cow and have a local farmer milk it for them. In most states this round about manner was within the legal guidelines, it sounds ridiculous, but then again you are dealing with politicians who make these convoluted laws that fit special interest groups. As for pictures, I have my husband working on going to Kinko's to digitalize . Unfortunately, these days he is a bit slow getting around to my projects since his focus is on his new job and unpacking the house, but he promised me by this weekend. We will see.
