Guest guest
YES!!!! A BS of 44 is way too low for any child. Dr H wants kept between 80-120. The Drs here will let him go as low as 60, but 44 is in the danger zone. I would offer her some room temp Gatorade and test her again in 1/2 an hour. If she continues to run low, I would take her into the ER, and have her placed on a D10 IV to help her maintain her BS. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Mine starts to get tired an uninterested in everything, then she has the stamina of a limp wet rag, staring in space. Occasionally, she will tell she doesn't feel good an will lie down with me, but usually, I have to watch her behavior. -mom to Mercedes jamie xxxx wrote: How do you know when there blood sugar is low? Guest guest
not really, you use a little lancet that pokes her finger so you can get some blood to do the test. > Will it hurt her? > > > Re: @CHECK++ Help Blood Sugar ? Guest guest
Hi , As Jodie said, you need a glucometer. The device itself isn't all that expensive, but the test strips are. has been having his BS tested since about a year of age. It didn't take long for him to learn how to press the button that pops the lancet into his finger. Having some control over the situation helped him deal with it well. We have to test him a minimum of twice a day. It is a slight pinch, but it doesn't affect at all anymore, and at 3.5 yrs old, he can almost do the entire thing himself now! The only thing he can't do is read the numbers! LOL When is sick, his BS is tested much more often. This last hospital stay, over Mother's Day, I tested him every two hours while he was on the D10 IV, and then every hour while the Drs were trying to adjust the IV rate with his feeds. I always feel a little sorry for him when he has to be tested that often because his finger tips get a little sore. I've come to realize that a lot of times our kids react the way we expect them to react. If we make a big deal about some procedure, then they think it's a big deal. If we behave as though this is just routine, matter of fact, then they learn to feel the same way. Does that make sense?? Hope this helps HUGS!! Guest guest
Pat you are so right. If you make a big deal over a procedure they will and if you just act like it's a routine course, they usually follow suit. Of course they still may have some fear but it's not crazy. It did take a little while, however, to get use to having EKG and echocardiogram's done. Now she's a pro and of course a little older. I'm always amazed about hearing how well the kids get used to the gh. I know Cals was looking for his so that he could get a sponge bob sticker. How is feeling? Guest guest
my brother is diabetic, i can tell when he is low because he gets really spacy and tends to " zone out " also he'll start to not make very much sense when he's speaking. it might be less obvious in children, my brother is 24 years old, but the symptoms are probably very similar. he just starts to get really slow and doesn't react as well. *leah* jamie xxxx wrote: How do you know when there blood sugar is low?
