Guest guest
Hi , My son , who will be 8 in a few weeks, often takes an hour to an hour and a half to eat. At school he hardly eats anything because he only has 20 minutes, tops. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi Sounds like your health visitors are not at all supportive or understanding, luckily although ours had not heard of RSS they are willing to learn from us and are supportive, maybe after you get a diagnoses they might change their views a bit. My daughter Bobbi is now 13 months (yesterday) and only has a few spoonfuls of pureed food a day and 50 -70ml, 7 x a day, so he sounds like his feeding is ok to me, how often do you feed him at present? I know how you feel with all the health professionals going on (just feed him more) but their not there trying to do it are they, and as long as he is gaining he is doing just fine. I wouldn't try to push him to eat as in my experience they will only throw up, and then they end up having less over all any way. Try to block out these uncaring comments as they will only stress you out further, I find if you need answers then ask the mums on this site, they know best. Take care Brigitte Slow eating is this normal for RSS? Hi to everyone again, Stirling is now 6mths old and although he seems to enjoy the small amounts of food he takes, it often takes an hour or more to feed him 2 (normal sized) ice cubes of food (about 1/2 jar). Is this expected for RSS children? Should i be trying to feed him smaller meals more frequently? He seems to like his Hi-Calorie formula and will now take 60-80 ml in a single session! He is mainitaing his weight, still only gaining tiny amounts although he has had another UTI which in turn triggered a bout of oral thrush. I keep getting a lot of pressure from health professionals to feed him more as they don't really understand RSS and some refuse to acknowledge he has it.( we're still awaiting a confirmed diagnosis, but he has so many of the traits and a consultant at our local hospital spotted it so i don't think there is much doubt there! is it also common for the mother to be constantly blamed for the child's condition as this is also happening to me. A Health Vistor again asked me if I ate properly while pregnant with him as this is a factor in SGA babies. I have also been accused of taking drugs and drinking. sorry for the mini-rant there, just wondred if this sort of thing has happened to anyone else out there. Guest guest
Hi my daughter is now 5 yrs old, she was diagnosed with RSS in 2001. She is a slow eater now only weighing 30lbs. I have always been questioned weather i smoked ,done drugs ,or dranked during my pregnancy. Never have It is very aggravating especially when people stair and you don't wont to give them the whole story of your child to a stranger. I nursed tori for 15 months around the clock she weighed 3lbs 9oz and only stayed in the hospital for 9 days, my guess now is because her pediatrician had no clue to what she was dealing with other than tori was completely healthy except for her weight. Guest guest
- I know that you are going thru a lot right now. I remember when my daugher was 6 months old and weighed 10lb - we finally were starting to get some answers. I never had anyone question my parenting - we were lucky - but I know that many moms on this listserve have had similar experiences. I sympathize with how stressed you are about the feeding. I did feed the high calorie baby food made by Beechnut. In fact I emailed them and they sent me a bunch of free jars. I believe it is www.beechnut.com. The babyfood is about twice what, gerber, for instance has. Also, are you waking Starling at night to feed him. This was one thing I did not start doing until I found out about RSS (around 6 months). I may be repeating information you have already heard from others on here. Good Luck ! Guest guest
Hi , I have ALWAYS been a slow eater. It doesn't matter what I'm eating or how hungry I am, I just can't make myself eat very quickly. I have always been the last one at the table, and it will probably continue to be that way until the day I die so I guess I'd better get used to it . I am also what I guess you would call a grazer. I don't eat very much in one sitting, but I eat a lot of mini meals throughout the day. I have friends who joke that they've never seen me without food (which may be true!). I know it's really, really tough right now, but hang in there! ~Hillary 22, RSS --- sickybear wrote: > > Hi to everyone again, > > Stirling is now 6mths old and although he seems to > enjoy the small > amounts of food he takes, it often takes an hour or > more to feed him > 2 (normal sized) ice cubes of food (about 1/2 jar). > Is this > expected for RSS children? > > Should i be trying to feed him smaller meals more > frequently? > > He seems to like his Hi-Calorie formula and will now > take 60-80 ml > in a single session! > > He is mainitaing his weight, still only gaining tiny > amounts > although he has had another UTI which in turn > triggered a bout of > oral thrush. > > I keep getting a lot of pressure from health > professionals to feed > him more as they don't really understand RSS and > some refuse to > acknowledge he has it.( we're still awaiting a > confirmed diagnosis, > but he has so many of the traits and a consultant at > our local > hospital spotted it so i don't think there is much > doubt there! > > is it also common for the mother to be constantly > blamed for the > child's condition as this is also happening to me. > A Health Vistor > again asked me if I ate properly while pregnant with > him as this is > a factor in SGA babies.
