Guest guest
It Salt Lake City, what can you say...actually you can say that the good Lord drank wine and who knows maybe he drank tea or coffee too! I refuse to give up Starbucks iced mochas and have my large cup from McD's everyday. For every study that says coffee is bad you can find one that says some coffee is good. Hand in there.Dyane phoenix ipf o2>> I don't know if this is just a product of the state I live in or if there is some substance to this. I went in for my rehab today and they informed me that I had a short period at my last exercise workout where my heart rate jumped to 145. They have informed my pulmo dude and said I may have to give up coffee (everyone in Utah seems to want you to give up your coffee). I don't drink coffee before my workouts, I save it for after. I was raised in Minnesota where you cannot go to a friend's home without a pot of coffee being brewed. I have had every doctor in Utah tell me I should quit drinking coffee because it isn't good for me. I really hate it when other belief systems are put upon me and I would have a very difficult time giving up my 2 cup a day habit. I don't think 16 oz. is too much. I could understand having a "pot on the stove" all day and having one cup after another might not be harmful, but really folks... 16 oz a day (some days it is only 8 oz). Guest guest
Stefani I drink Diet Cokes. I know they are bad for me and know caffeine is bad. I haven't been told to give them up but I do limit myself to one per day. However, I have dieted before without any. If I were told I couldn't have any, then I'd just give them up. Simple. I seriously doubt however that your heart rate suddenly jumped like that based on two per day, none of which were before rehab. But, isn't that easy enough to find out by not drinking any and seeing what your heart rate does? Certainly, I think you know as well as any of us do that you're making way too much out of giving up a cup of two or coffee, that somehow you've let that become huge as if a symbol of giving up other important things in your life. I'd just give it up at least for now, but most of all I would want my heart rate monitored and maintained in safe ranges. If it gets too high, rehab should slow your pace until it can safely resume at the current pace. I once had encountered stomach problems. I dont' drink milk, but the doctor told me to give up ice cream. I wanted my stomach better but oh how I hoped he was wrong. I gave up ice cream and my stomach was fine. Now there is lactaid I could take if I really wanted to eat ice cream without it upsetting my stomach. But I just did what necessary to see if he was right or wrong. He was right that time. Again, I doubt if you only drink coffee as you say that its the problem, but isn't it easy enough to find out? > > I don't know if this is just a product of the state I live in or if there is some substance to this. Guest guest
Everyone needs to be aware of the safe heart rate for themselves based on age, height, condition and then stay within that. 145 for me at my age would be very bad and I just need to not go there. Fortunately, I don't go that high but I have had days I went out of my normal range and had to slow down. Actually those days were caused by my sinus congestion being exceptionally bad. I do think its a bit presumptive for a rehab person to presuppose the cause. To attribute it to coffee seems like an awfully huge leap on their part. Perhaps they should report the facts and leave the diagnosis to the doctors. > > > > I don't know if this is just a product of the state I live in or if > there is some substance to this. Guest guest
I used to drink coffee. But, after abusing it with the Cuban coffee in Miami and several years of drinking Navy coffee on the sub my stomach rebelled. I tried decaf and still have it once in awhile. When I gave up the leaded variety I got headaches in the afternoon until I finally detoxed. For me it was more the tannic acid in the coffee than the caffiene. Starbucks is coming out with their new instant coffees and I hope they have a good decaf. I'm also lactose intolerant, but I use Walgreen's lactose pills which are not a drug but beneficial bacteria or another pro biotic. (Also good for controlling gerd)But, Lactaid, the brand, not only makes milk, choc. milk, and cottage cheese but they are now making vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, and the ever popular butter pecan ice cream. Can I get a yumm!!! They are all easy on the stomach. And the butter pecan is delicious! Guest guest
I find my morning coffee is good for my state of mind and that is what matters. It is lovingly made by my husband and put into a coffee mug to go to work with me. He brought it into the hospital for me last week. I will have my morning coffee until they rip it from my hand. Guest guest
Stefani, Speaking only for myself....they will get my coffee out of my cold dead hand. I drink about 2 cups a day, like you. It's non-negotiable. I will not give it up. My heart rate jumps up into the high 120's to 130's when I exercise and occasionally hits 140. I used to routinely jump into the 140's but regular exercise has improved that a bit. My morning coffee brings me pleasure. That's it and in a difficult life it's enough reason for me to not want to change it. When I visit Peggy in Florida we drink coffee all day....she's got a wonderful Bunn coffeemaker that makes a pot on 3 or 4 minutes. Bless it's wonderful little coffee brewing heart! I can't tell you what to do but I will be drinking my coffee and enjoying it! Guest guest
I’m reluctant to say how much coffee I drink a day WAY WAY to much but at this point in my life that is one thing I’m keeping. I do start around 5am with a cup out on the deck then one in my travel mug on my way out the door. I don’t stop there BUT I don’t want an intervention or have to have another support group. Guest guest
Walt- I also drink way too much coffee and at work they supply gourmet coffee that is fantastic. If I don't get my French Vanilla at 2pm, I get cranky! As far as heart rate is concerned, mine goes up all the time when I walk whether I am on O2 or not but I'm with you Beth- they would have to yank my mug out of my cold dead hands! Guest guest
I used to be a heavy coffee drinker when I lived in Florida.  Cup in hand all day long, plus several cuban shots a day and expresso after dinner.  I began cutting back when I returned to SC and last year when having severe sleeping problems I gave up coffee and soda to see if my sleeping would improve..It did not, but the coffee jones was gone and I really don't miss it too much.  I do have an occasional cup out on the deck in the mornings and enjoy it with a doughnut!Roxanne, 59, South Carolina 2006 Asthma/ PF 2008 PF/ Sarcoidosis/Gerd I pray you enough.....
