Guest guest
I wonder if the fact that he was born three months early will give you more time for the head to grow. His adjusted age is really only about 13 or 14 months so there may be room for some improvement. I'm just not sure how that works for head growth. Does anybody else know? , mom to , 22 months STARband grad 05/11/09 land 17 month old too late for band hello!I'm new to the group. My baby is now 17 month old, he was a preemie born at 26 weeks. His plagio was noticed very early but his pediatricians kept telling me it would fix by itself. When he was 13 month I decided to see a specialist too late by then of course. We were told it's mild and that it's too late for anything other than surgery which she doesn't recommend because it's "only cosmetic". Everytime I look at him from the top I get enraged with the pediatrician and myself for trusting too much. So I'm bringing him tomorrow again to the craniofacial surgeon to ask more and try to get over it, I guess. But is it really only cosmetic? And is it relly too late for bands? Guest guest
The craniofacial surgeon wouldn't band him but would support me if I want to, she thinks he's too old and his adj age shouldn't be considered anymore. The orthotist on the other hand would keep his prematurity in mind to his advantage, his fontanelle on the top is still a little open, if that's the way to say it; she also wouldn't band him because he's very mild (5mm asymmetry) but because he is actually 14 1/2 month adj, if he were severe she would recommend banding. So I really think it's worth giving it a shot even though because of his age they would want a commitment of at least 6 months. We had the scan done and the only number she talked to us about was the asymmetry but maybe reading the e-mails from the group that's not the only parameter we should look at? Infact his scan didn't look that bad, his flat spot is not as noticeable as when you look at him. It was the first time he had a scan done so I'm completely new to the whole thing. Guest guest
Hi, It would make sense that he would grow like a 13 to 14 month old. I really hope so. Does anybody know what type of growth and asymmetry improvement to expect at this age?  My son turns 13 months next week and we started the helmet a few weeks ago. We started at 7.1mm and are down to 6.2mm. Visually there is improvement, but there is still a significant flat area. Thanks in advance, Kathy melanie.watson@... wrote: I wonder if the fact that he was born three months early will give you more time for the head to grow.
