Guest guest
I have usually found that when I am going to meet someone new and where it really counts... like in a job interview... that I am best off to pre-inform that person with a definition of myself that is more pleasing, rather than to leave it up to their pre-defined definition of " fat " people. I usually state something like, " I'm a little round lady. " Or, when meeting someone in a much more casual situation... depending on their age and whatever contact we've had previously (laf, such as with my husband who I met on the internet)... I say something like, " I'm very short, and very round. I'm a hobbit! " Anyway, you can't sway everyone, and I don't think one should HAVE to predefine one's self, but I prefer to be able to pick my own definition and try to make it other people's as well. Elle ** laf... soon hopefully gonna be a " former " hobbit! >Re: Being called Fat > I have a different opinion here. As long as we, the MO, accept the > view that it is insulting to be called " fat " then we are promulgating > the cultural view of fat as wrong, ugly, or embarassing. Oh I know > that people have called us that wiht full intention of hurting us and > putting us down. But unless we take control of the defination, then > we continue to support the problem.
