I hadn't even gotten STARTED doing SCD correctly at that point! " As I only have to feed myself SCD is not difficult at all, foods are either legal or they're not. I read the book and it certainly didn't take me more than a few hours to work out what to eat and what not to eat. I appreciate it must be a lot more difficult if people have a family to feed. Are your fur kids on SCD. Steve, Yep, the fur kids are on SCD. In fact, they went on it in 1998, and I didn't discover it for myself until 2001. They were (and are) a grain-free raw diet. I mentioned in the (now deceased) NatMed Forum on CompuServe that it was a pity there wasn't a grain-free human diet. Someone pointed me to BTVC, and the rest was history. I think I made every mistake known to SCDers worldwide in my first year on the Diet, including adding foods too fast and trying to " wash " regular cottage cheese to make it like dry curd cottage cheese. I'm a cook. And a good one. The major issue for me was not " Is this food legal? " but " Can I make a legal of version of this once-favorite food? " I live in an area where spice mixtures are important to the cuisine, and I had to learn how to create my own mixtures. I was further challenged by doing salt-free cooking for my Mom, who had congestive heart failure. My other challenge was, " Can I make these favorite foods and not kill myself spending 24/7 in the kitchen? " Really! I have a life outside of cooking food and washing dishes! My husband is remarkably adaptable -- he gave up rice and pasta except when we went out without blinking. He does keep a loaf of whole wheat sandwich bread for his work-lunch sandwiches, but that's the only illegal in the house. While I struggle to lose weight, he, the despicable creature, eats 6000 calories a day on a desk job to maintain his slender frame. I need frequent smaller meals. His idea of breakfast is 3-4 jumbo eggs, 4-6 slices of bacon, and about 12-18 ounces of orange juice. And he'll be hungry again in about three hours. BTW, a friend threw a birthday party for her husband last weekend. Neither of them are SCD -- but with the exception of the French bread (I brought my own) and the commercial salad dressings (I brought my own), everything was SCD-legal -- and everyone enjoyed the heck out of themselves. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
