Did anyone see Carnie on Rosie O'Donnell today? She

said she had the RNY and there's no long term side

effects from the surgery. She said she can eat

whatever she wants, just that she eats smaller

portions. If she eats too much, she feels a little

uncomfortable for about 45 mins. She also said she

can eat about 3 bites of a Krispy Kreme.

Interesting...

She says this because she is paid to say it by Dr. Wittgrove. I have

it on VERY good authority that she is scared to death of regaining

and wishes she had known about DS before she had her surgery.

RoseAnne had the fobi pouch, not Rosie O'Donnel - she was confused.

I don't think the elongation of the common channel automatically results in

weight gain -- Actually, it is what STOPS the weight loss and causes one to

MAINTAIN close to an ideal weight (more or less). I suppose if someone's

body compensates by elongation of the common channel or increase in receptor

cells (this is another possibility and results in increased absorption) AND

one eats a lot or perhaps the 'wrong foods' (lots and lots of carbs or sugars

without abandon), one could regain some weight.

Common Channel elongation is desirable in the long run: It's what keeps the

post-op DS from losing too much weight and provides stabilization at about 12

months-18 months post-op. Now, there are those who require a revision to

shorten their common channels but this is a relatively rare statistic (as is

losing too much weight and requiring a longer common channel). The symptoms

of having too long of a common channel are insufficient initial weight loss,

though - not late weight regain so it is a problem that is usually addressed

or monitored within the first year post-op.
