Guest guest
Just looking for any suggestions. I have heard some people cut out nightshades to deal with acne so I might try that. Does anyone have a skin care routine that works for them? I tend to stay away from commercial products.I never use commercial products. For my face, I just rub in olive oil, let it sit for a few minutes, and then put a pot on the stove with a tiny bit of water in the bottom and let it steam my face. Then just wipe off any excess olive oil and you're good to go! I haven't used face soap in months, and my skin isn't greasy or anything.Hope that helps! Peace =)Alyssa 16 yo UC April 2008, dx Sept 2008SCD June 2009 (restarted)Azathioprine 50 mg 1x per dayPrednisone 35 mg 1x per day
Guest guest
That's interesting. I've been using coconut oil but didn't try steaming after and then wiping excess off. I will have to give that a try! Thanks, Kat > > > Just looking for any suggestions. I have heard some people cut out > > nightshades to deal with acne so I might try that. Guest guest
I use Emu oil. It is so wonderful. http://www.emumagic.com/After I wash my face or take a shower I use this. It's greasy like olive oil but I've never had my skin break out. It works GREAT for dry skin too. I use it on the kids all the time.michelleTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Thu, April 8, 2010 9:29:35 PMSubject: Re: OT: Acne Issues That's interesting. Guest guest
Hi Kat, I, too, am trying to give up all the toxic personal care items, and am doing pretty good with everything but shampoo (I went " no 'poo " for a bit, but this method really doesn't work if you're taking regular epsom salt baths). I've been using a mix of olive oil and castor oil to clean my face, and my skin looks good. I've read that the olive oil is the softener or conditioner, while the castor oil acts as the cleanser, and depending on the oiliness of your face, proportion your mix accordingly. I've been making about a 50/50 mix, with a few drops of various essential oils, and put it on my dry face. I then adding hot water and emulsify the oil on my face (this is supposed to be the real cleansing step), rinse, and wipe off with a hot washcloth. When I was looking around for what oils to use, I saw a couple of postings by folks who said they felt like coconut oil clogged their pores and caused break-outs, so you might want to explore other oils. Guest guest
Thanks, I think I might try different oils. I think I'm being too light with them as well for fear of my skin getting too greasy. Maybe I just need to really give my skin some oil for a while and see if it helps. Thanks, Kat > > > > > Just looking for any suggestions. Guest guest
I actually had a lot of luck with no poo. I use an egg and then a vinegar rinse. My hair is less dry now (didn't have any static all winter). Have you tried an egg? I think I will try a different oil on my face. Maybe coconut oil is just not helping me. I'll start with olive oil and go from there. Thanks! Guest guest
Kat,I also use coconut oil on my face and my soon-to-be 14 yo son does too -- helps his acne. The coconut oil does feel a tad heavy, but it doesn't clog my pores as I use a very small amount and the antibacterial/antiviral properties help with acne as well as keep the skin soft.Amelia To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 4:04:01 AMSubject: Re: OT: Acne Issues Hi Kat, I, too, am trying to give up all the toxic personal care items, and am doing pretty good with everything but shampoo (I went "no 'poo" for a bit, but this method really doesn't work if you're taking regular epsom salt baths). Guest guest
Kat,I'd like to know more about how you use egg for shampoo and vinegar for rinse. I have tried ACV in the past mixed with water, but felt it too harsh on my hair. Maybe that was because I used shampoo too?AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Fri, April 9, 2010 1:56:18 PMSubject: Re: OT: Acne Issues I actually had a lot of luck with no poo. Guest guest
I tend to use the yolk mostly, as the egg whites tend to run off my head pretty quickly. Just massage the yolk into your scalp and hair then rinse fully. I put about 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar in a cup of warm water and pour that over as much hair as I can. Then rinse with water. The vinegar tends to just make your hair soft and shiny, not dry. I think if you went from shampoo and conditioner to shampoo and vinegar, the shampoo might be too drying? Guest guest
I've dealt with moderate acne all my life and can't use any oil on my face. What works for me is a toner made of witch hazel and tea tree oil that I mix up myself, aloe vera gel (topical, not internal), and, gotta have it unfortunately, benzoyl peroxide. I also take 2 grams of cod liver oil daily and it really helps. All the traditional medical acne meds have caused problems, especially 5 years of antibiotics, which is probably how I got on this list in the first place! Thank goodness I didn't take Accutane. --
