Kim,

I appreciate your input! I've looked up the Sphincter of Oddi and I just don't have the nausea problem to the degree that it sounds like you have. I occasionally have nausea when I'm feeling especially rotten. Yesterday, a trace of nausea. But S of O sounds like nausea is much more prominent and more frequent. I'm hoping I don't have it anyways! :)

I also did a search on chronic pancreatitis yesterday. It said that the person will look very ill and should go to the hospital and given only fluids to let the pancreas totally rest. That there is extreme abdominal pain. To me that sounds like "doubled over" kind of abdominal pain which I didn't have. I could have problems with the pancreatic duct though. There is a constant feeling of pressure and congestion in my upper gut, in the middle under my ribs, often swings to the right under the ribs so I have thought it's a congested liver. Have had a few twinges of it going to the left under the ribs but nothing like I experienced the night before last and during the day yesterday. I tell ya, I was a bit freaked out and thinking Now what??!!

Anyway, today I am sending my stool sample away to have that GI panel done by this lab in Georgia. I will bring up this S of O dysfunction when I see my doctor for the results in about a month's time. Again, thanks so much for your info! Honestly, this group helps keep me sane sometimes! It would be a lonely road without you guys.

The pancreas spreads behind the stomach and duodenum, so it can trigger symptoms in the left and right upper abdominal. The biliary tree is right upper quadrant. Pancreatic pain, or problems with the pancreatic duct can be felt further to the right, in the center, and to the left of center [grin].

I know I sound like a broken record, but your pain and nausea sounds so much like what I experience having Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. When my Sphincter of Oddi is flaring I can’t lie on my left side, can’t lie on my right for very long, so end up on my back but still have pain and nausea. Some folks with Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction deal more with pancreatic issues, others with biliary issues.

I don’t have a gallbladder any more either.

Here’s a helpful illustration of the upper GI. http://www.hopkins- gi.org/ Click on Diseases and Conditions, then select the chronic pancreatitis condition for the illustration.

You might have developed some functional issues with your upper GI. It happens with 10% to 12% of patients who have their gallbladders removed. Sometimes a sphincterotomy is required to relieve the pressure, but food choices help the most in keeping symptoms minimal.

Don't have a gallbladder anymore. I thought my pancreas was on the right side under the ribs...Thanks Holly! DarleneIntestinal Dysbiosis/CFSSCD 9 weeks
