Guest guest
Hi, Has anyone experienced their child still not taking solids/pureed food at 14 months? The older my daughter Bobbi gets I am getting increasingly worried that she will not eat food, she is still only on a diet of milk approx 400ml a day. Also I am still having to wind her. Any thoughts? Brigitte (mum to Bobbi 14 months 12.5lb, 26.5 " )
Guest guest
Is it safe to assume that Bobbi is on a G-Tube? IS that what " wind " means? Anyway, Dalia is 18 months and cannot chew anything...fortunately she does eat purees and baby food...her Feeding therapist has me thickening her food now and trying to add tiny pieces, but she gags and vomits at anything more or anything too thick...this took so long to get here and I don't see any chewing in sight. TMI, but the tiny pieces I gave her came out whole in her diaper, so she swallowed them whole. It is a lot of work and slow going, but eventually it will happen...I know how you feel that it will never happen, but it will...the therapy is essential. Guest guest
Hi Sheryl No Bobbi does not have a G tube, when I say'wind' I mean 'Burp' sorry thats what we call it in the UK. Guest guest
Brigitte, I wouldn't get too worried yet. I have 3 kids, all of which have feeding issues, but only one has RSS. My oldest is 11 (RSS), has a g-tube, and eats almost nothing by mouth. I have a 4 year old who is very picky, has silent reflux, and was on pureed baby food for a very long time, because he didn't like solids. I also have a daughter who will be 15 months tomorrow, who is following in the footsteps of my 4 year old with the pickiness & unwillingness to try new things. She had very bad reflux & delayed emptying, and we are going back to the hospital in a few weeks to do an endoscopy & pH prbe again in hopes that this phase is over for her. All my kids are on the small side and barely eat anything. To give you an idea, I can order one hamburger happy meal at Mcs & all 3 of them can't even finish half of it. I always feel like the order taker or waiter in a restaurant thinks I am cheap - lol! I would recommend you let Bobbi play with foods for awhile & eventually some might get in her mouth. Yes, she will make a mess, but let her rub pureed baby food all over her high chair tray, & feel textures of soft foods. Maybe it is more of a sensory issue for her. By the way, my 15 month old is still not walking either, though in the past few weeks she has taken a few short steps by herself. Hope this makes some of the moms who have older babies not walking yet feel better! Kim C. > Hi, > Has anyone experienced their child still not taking solids/pureed food > at 14 months? Guest guest
Hi Kim C, Thanks for your reply, I think you are right about the sensory issue, it did take a long time for Bobbi to get used to sucking a bottle, so I guess food is gona take even longer, it is just such a worry. Do your children drink alot (milk) or have any dietry suppliments at all? Bobbi is not crawling/ walking or standing yet she has just started to get around abit on her bum pushing with hands and legs. Brigitte Re: Solid Foods Brigitte, I wouldn't get too worried yet. Guest guest
Hello, Yes na is 4 and still has not had any meat or eggs. She still will only have veggies out of the jar. I can only say keep putting it in front of her and trying. Tell her to smell kiss it then put it down. eventually with patients she will do it. We went to feeding groups for her. She will have Pizza, crackers, jello, yogart, some cheese, toast.Another thing to try is a nuk brush. I use to let her hold it and rub against her gums and lips to desensitise them. What do you mean by wind her? Let me know if that helps any. Marcy nas mom brigitteforeman wrote: Hi, Has anyone experienced their child still not taking solids/pureed food at 14 months? Guest guest
Hi, Brigitte, I know Stirling is a lot younger than Bobbi, this is what he does. Stirling gags on the slightest lump/texture in his puree. Have you tried giving her biscuits/finger foods at all? Stirling will happily munch a 'Malted Milk' biscuit (it melts after a good suck, so he can eat it quite well. Can't offer any help/advice on crawling/walking as we haven't got to that stage yet. Guest guest
Hi Thanks for your reply, it seems to be a common thing for our kids to gag/vomit on lumps etc. Bobbi has just starts to put crisps & biscuits to her mouth but my problem is that she now has a few teeth and will bite bits off then she chokes/gags because she doesn't know what to do with it, I know this is a learning curve for them but when they are so small you just don't want them to vomit want they have managed to take, so what do you do? Sounds like Stirling is doing well though Bobbi wouldn't put anything near her mouth at that age, What is his current weight/height now? Guest guest
Hi Stirling is doing well, he is about a month in front of bobbi's weight at that age, she was 9 months when she hit 10lb I remeber being so excited she had got to double figures! How many bottles and pureed foods does Stirling have in 24 hrs, I try to fit in feedinf her food and playing arounf with it and it seems like I am continuously feeding, Bobbi now has 7 bottles day (was 9 but have now stopped the night feeds as she refused them). Feel free to e mail me privately if you like! brigitte.foreman@... Re: Solid Foods > > Hi, > > Has anyone experienced their child still not taking solids/pureed > food > > at 14 months?
