Guest guest
diagnosed w cd last march. failed humira, 6mp,and lialda. prednisone and methotrexate worked for several months until major flare 5 weeks ago. urgency through night and up to 6x per day bloody diarrhea and constant stomach pain since last flare. dr says 80% of colon is inflamed and surgery is next step after 6 weeks of remicaid infusions w prednisone fail. started yesterday w chx soup and homemade jello only but made first batch of yogurt which will be ready tomorrow. havent had any dairy in 2 years bc i thought this was part of what caused my initial crohn's symptoms ( i went on a 1000 cal/day diet for 3 months consisting of mostly dairy protein shakes and some chicken/fish/ veggies) book says intro diet for 2-5 days depending on symptoms and then introduce cooked fruits veggies, etc when diarrhea/cramping is gone. My main question is, what if the diarrhea doesnt go away? should i begin to introduce other legal foods anyways or just stick to intro diet until no diarrhea for the entire trial month? any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
Hi, you are not supposed to stay on intro for more than 5 days, so progress slowly with stage one foods. Some people have difficulty with eggs- with D, so avoid them if the D continues. Introduce the yogurt gradually. Some people tolerate it better dripped.I know I do. Carrots also gave me a hard time. Keep a food journal and introduce new foods gradually, one at a time. Pecanbread.com is a good guide for stages. Keep in mind this is a site for kids with ASD and they avoid dairy. We can have legal SCD yogurt and legal cheese. The homemade soups are always helpful and can be used at all stages. Guest guest
You should not stay on intro passed 5 days. Hopefully, your symptoms will be better by then. This is how my intro went. Day 1 and 2 chicken broth and homemade gelatin. Day 3 & 4 pureed the veggies back in. Day 5 tried some of the veggies with the soup and it didn't agree so I pureed it for a couple more days. I added hard boiled eggs and colby jack cheese on Day 6. After I could tolerate the veggies in the soup, I ate well cooked carrots then carrot soufflé. Then I added bananas and well cooked peeled apples and was ok. I didn't keep up for a while in there but around Day 12-14 I added zucchini peeled, deseeded and well cooked and was OK. I stayed at those things for a good long while. Mostly eating eggs, gelatin, chicken, burger patties, carrots, zucchini, bananas, apples, cheese and tropicana OJ for several months. Your symptoms should be somewhat better after 5 days. Just go slow introducing new foods. One new food every 3 days. It took a couple months for me to even tolerate 1/4 teaspoon of yogurt. I would get immediate pain when I would try it. I went slow and tolerate it fine when I make it now. I sub acidophilus from Lucyskitchen.com when I don't have yogurt. Please let me know if you have any specific questions. No, you begin to introduce other foods once you are through the intro. SOmetimes it does take longer for the diarrhea to clear. Guest guest
Please keep us updated. I hate it when people " fall through the cracks " . Meaning they aren't healing and they give up before anything good can happen because of discouragement.
