Guest guest
Hi Sheryl, I checked drugstore.com and cvs.com for side effects of cyproheptadine (periactin). Reflux was not one of the side effects. It did say that there can be a thickening of the mucus (?sp) in the nose and throat. This may account for your daughters frequent swallowing. I would suggest you call your doctor and explain your concerns. I learned a couple of interesting things while reading about the liquid form of periactin. First in must not get any warmer than 86 deg F. Also, do not store it in the bathroom or other rooms where there can be high humidity. No explaniation given. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Sheryl, I think I remember hearing that Periactin does not increase reflux, but because the children eat more with Periactin, their reflux can increase. I am not sure about this, but it rings a bell. , Jonah's mom Frequent Swallowing > > > Dalia has been on reflux medicine for over a year now and things have > been pretty good. Guest guest
Sheryl- I have noticed the same thing with Isaac over the last week. After he finishes a bottle he swallows a couple of times. He usually does this at the midnight feeding and since he sleeps through it I figured he was dreaming? He never coughs up anything and he doesn't have issues with his stomach so I haven't really been worried about it. At his 15 month check up his pediatrician suggested skiping Zantac doses and seeing how he reacts. He thought he might not need it anymore..well the one time I skipped Isaac threw up. I haven't skipped any mored doses since it is the first time he has thrown up since we started Zantac when he was 6 mos old. Talk to your doctor..I am curious to see what they say about the swallowing issue. Take Care of yourself!!! Mimi Mom to Isaac (15 mos- 14 lbs 12 oz, RSS, hypothroid) & one due 9-27-05..sonogram to determine gender on cinco de mayo!!
