Guest guest
I modified the SCD intro. diet the second time I used it, which was about 2 weeks after the first time. I found my body intolerant of some of the suggested foods so I substituted others that I knew were better tolerated and yet still fulfilled the strategy of the intro. diet, which was easy-to-digest and soft foods. I had been on clear liquids for months before I started SCD, so had to work up to more solid foods, and adapt the suggestions to what my body would accept. Because of my functional GI disorders I still can’t eat all of the permitted foods on SCD. I didn’t follow the suggested food phases found on pecanbread.com, I just tested and experimented with foods that I thought would be OK based on the needs of my dysfunctional upper GI. I also had to deal with a systemic candida overgrowth, so also had to work in elimination strategies to my SCD food choices. So you can pick and choose foods from the permitted food list, to accommodate your own body’s needs. I haven’t studied the differences between GAPS and SCD too much, but I know SCD works, even for me who has to eat low-fat, low-fiber, bland, no dairy, minimal fruit, etc. I eat well, my digestive symptoms are under good management, haven’t needed pain management 24/7or frequent ERCPs unlike other patients with the same digestive disorder. One of the greatest things about SCD is that we all have a long list of possible foods to choose from, and are able to fine-tune our diet to better suit our individual needs. As long as we stick to the science of SCD, we can find foods and supplements that are just right for each of us. And then we heal [grin]. Kim M. SCD 6 years Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction 6+ years neurological & spinal deterioration 3+ years >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I've mainly been eating well cooked soups made with meat broth - that's been my main stay for two months. I just ordered BTVC but I wonder how compatible this diet will be for me with fruit juice, cooked eggs, fish/chicken as part of the introductory diet. The GAPS diet starts with meat broth, egg yolk, well cooked vegetables. I would appreciate hearing how others have modified the SCD diet intially until their bodies were able to digest food. Also, any thoughts regarding GAPS or SCD? (I imagine it all comes down to listening to my body). Thank you. (Humboldt Co, CA)
