Guest guest
Hi Val! I'm not sure which medication you are thinking of, but I wanted to give you some encouragement about the steriods. I know, they SUCK. I HATE them. I want to get pregnant in a year or so and have been on them for 18 miserable years. BUT... I also know that they are the only medication that can control my pain, cramping, D, etc. I just wanted to let you know that I know a few women who have taken 20mg throughout their pregnancy and have been fine. If you ABSOLUTELY have to take it to get everything under control, don't be too discouraged. Of course it is a personal decision, but talk to your doctor about being on them during pregnancy if you absolutely have to go on them. Good Luck! -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 25mg Prednisone > > Hi, > > I have been having cramps and D for months and in the last 2 weeks it has gradually turned to severe cramps and blood. Just a bit, but still, it is painful. I am going back to my GI and we will be discussing new medications. I am 99% sure he will try to get me on steriods. I would like to avoid them at all costs. I have been trying to get pregnant as well, which hasn't been working. So, I ask you which drugs are out there that you guys recommend. I have always reacted very well to new drugs. I would like something it would be safe to get pregnant on. I believe someone had recommended I try something that starts with an L. > > Thanks, > Val > > SCD 11 months > asacol 4000 mg > mom of Penelope >
Guest guest
Hi, I have been having D since September, 2 weeks before my gall bladder was removed. At that point I was suddenly unable to tolerate any goats milk whatsoever. We knew I was allergic to gluten and caesin, but did tolerate goats milk just fine. I have been unable to ever since. It causes and almost instant reaction of D and blood. I have been miserable since September. My homeopath, who is on the list of doctors says that the diet isn't working form me. I have tried intro foods and nothing works. I am tired and depressed all the time. Things really kicked off when my in-laws visited for 2 weeks! I have also lost 2 cats and my grandmother, who was like a mom to me since December. I know the emotional stuff is a big contributor, it was almost like I was vulnerable when the inlaws arrived. I slipped into sleeping alot. 10 PM - 8 am and then a 4 hour nap in the afternoon when my daughter went down. But then we found out that my thyroid was running on the low side. The thyroid meds have cut down on the napping, until the last 3 weeks. I have an appointent with my GI Next week and will definitly bring up the point that Asacol is a maitenance drug. I have heard it can cause inflamation, but at a time like this you forget things like that!!! I can't thank you enough for pointing it out. I think the drug I was looing at was LDN. Thanks Val > > Val, > > How long have you been on the Asacol? Guest guest
Hi, Thank you so much. Your encouragement means a lot. I believe I was thinking of LDN. Part of my problem is I am 42. Another part of my problem is for the last 10 years I have gradually put on 25lbs and no matter what I did could never loose it. I am talking swimming, walking & pilates 5 days a week and watching what I ate. Then I was diagnosed with UC 3 years ago and still the weight didn't go. This confused me because most people with my condition have a hard time keeping weight on. We found out last month that my thyroid has been running low. In the last month, following the SCD I have lost 6 pounds. Considering how little I have been eating, anyone else would have lost 15lbs, but still, for me that loss is a break through. It means we are heading in the right direction with the thyroid meds. I had a beautiful mother who was meticulouse about her weight, in fact that is her entire family culture. So the weight thing has been pounded into my head and has done some damage. Now here I am about ready to turn things around. I really only want to target 10lbs above my ideal weight unlike the crazy people I am related to and now I may have to go on steriods. It is messing with my head. I always thought I was diagnosed with a mild case of UC. I work really hard at correcting it and am getting my butt kicked! I am finally coming terms with the amount of stress I was raised under and then the stuff I put myself through to escape and be self-sufficient. I am angry about it now, like that is doing me any good. I have acheived a peaceful life, but now UC. My frustration is there. So, please tell me why the prednisone sucks. Is it the moodiness or the weight? I really feel lost. Maybe all hope is not lost on a 2nd child. I have finally come to a place in my life where it is a good hapy environment to have children and am so afraid that now, I can't have a second. I am thankful for the one beautiful, healthy little girl I have, but would love for her to have a sibbling, especially considering I started my family at 40. I don't ever want her feeling as alone as I have. Thanks val > > > > Hi, > > > > I have been having cramps and D for months and in the last 2 weeks it has gradually turned to severe cramps and blood. Guest guest
Val,I recommend that you read through the website www.stopthethyroidmadness.com. Although you are just starting on thyroid meds, synthetic thyroid medication can have significant downsides. If you can switch to dessicated thyroid (natural, pig thyroid gland, dried and powdered) it is much better. Also, given the chronic stress from having UC, you could have really stressed your adrenal glands as well -- they produce steroids which are responsible for many things and one of which is inflammation regulation and assisting thyroid chemicals into the cells.AmeliaTo: BTVC-SCD Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 2:47:11 PMSubject: Re: Medication Question Hi, I have been having D since September, 2 weeks before my gall bladder was removed. Guest guest
Thank you! As soon as I get back from the 3 year olds birthday party I will go to that website. I am using pig thyroid. No synthetic. Guest guest
Prednisone has a lot of side effects that people experience. For me, prednisone sucked because I gained weight (everywhere, but when it went in my face - moonface - it had the added effect of pain because of the pressure), was always hungry, my sense of taste lessened, I felt angry or depressed a lot of the time, excess hair growth, it pools water in the joints making some movements painful, insomnia, night sweats....etc. In my case I think it also affected my memory and definitely left physical (stretch marks like you wouldn't believe) and mental scars on me. ....that said the side effects start to go away after I got off it. And I know that I would not have gotten better without it. Starter diet and maintenance drugs weren't enough to control my ever worsening symptoms. Sometimes you need the meds to help get your body going in the right direction. stacey > > So, please tell me why the prednisone sucks. Is it the moodiness or the weight?
