Guest guest
Hey guys, I really appreciate all of you! I have read your postings on and off over the last three years and your advice has been invaluable. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease three years ago this June, after a tough year of diarrhea, weight loss and brain fog. I went on the diet that July. Three years on the diet and I'm doing great! What I want to ask you is if there is any way to get the Crohn's diagnosis removed from my medical record. I am 30 years old and recently married. I am in a high-risk insurance pool which is hard to afford on our budget but even more important, they won't allow me to purchase life insurance. I never cared about that until now, but I would like to be able to provide that for my wife. Have any of you had any experience with this? Should I go to my gastroenterologist, who says I'm in a temporary remission and food plays no part? Or should I find a new doctor. Thanks for any help you can give and God bless you all. ph Crohn's SCD 3 years No medicine
Guest guest
Hi ph, What great news to hear. This is a tough one. In this era of computers and insurance, diagnoses that are in records are hard to get rid of. The only possibility that I see would be a " second opinion " . Your GI maintains that Crohns is forever. I guess a new GI may be willing to say well if everything is normal, it was never Crohns in the first place? You would risk an expensive work up that may not lead to what you want, and most GI's say once Crohns always Crohns, and there is no standard cure that is recognized by the medical profession. I don't even know if a GI exists who would do this. But this would be the only way that I could think of. Thank goodness you are well! PJ > > Hey guys, > > I really appreciate all of you! Guest guest
I worked for a lady (and this was several years ago) who sold insurance. She could not even get coverage for me with all that had happened in the previous two years. It was more than Crohn's but she said that was one of the conditions that was pre-existing and I'd have a hard time finding insurance. She said I'd have to go ten years without treatment, in remission before they would even consider it. There is an attorney who works for donations. Jaff, advocacyforpatients.org. She has handbooks for sell and you can email or post on her blog. She's an attorney with Crohn's Disease. I strongly recommend her handbook--it covers everything from schools, disability, family leave, all things related to legal/chronic illness issues. (I have no financial ties fwiw, like I said she works strictly from donations, her services are free). Debbie 41 cd Hi ph,What great news to hear. This is a tough one.
