KC,

I arrived home from the hosptial last Wednesday and am doing fine. I

put a quick post up, but I guess you missed it. I still have some

mild pain and I sleep on a recliner. Eating is difficult as

expected. I have some gas. My nausia has recently gone away, but now

I have diaharreha. My incision is healing well, though the port for

the J-tube feels a bit sore. At times I feel great and at other

times not so great. My energy level waxes and wanes.

Weight loss looks great, though I don't belive my scale, and

dehydration is a factor. I don't plan to report (or belive) any

weight loss figures until my November 19th appointment with Dr. A.

Hey Chris

Sounds like you are right on track. You will have a really great day

then the next you're too pooped to pop. I had a spate of 4 days in

the 3rd week that I was totally whipped.

I had a scare with blood clots today. I called my PCP to tell her

about the pain in my legs, she didn't mess around--they got me in in

1 hour for an ultrasound of my legs. Everything is fine.

The tech who did the test is overweight and she asked me questiones

the entire time about the DS. She took my name and phone number down

when I left wanting to get more info. So something good came out of

it.

Happy to see a post from you Chris. Got your return

post but have been thinking about you and wondering

how things were going since you got home. Keep taking

one day at a time and recooperate. Keep drinking that

water.

Best wishes

Hi Chris!

I'm glad you're feeling better but sorry to hear about the runs.

Hope that gets better fast. I do have a question for you if you're

feeling up to it. What is a J tube port? Is that something that

stays in after your surgery? Is it yet something else that has to

come out a month later?

Thanks and may you have a quick recovery!

Tracey,

The J-tube is a small tube that sticks out of a hole about 4 inches

left and 1 inch above the belly button. The tube is connected

directly to the jejunum and allows insertion of fluids in a way that

bypasses the stomach entirely. Dr. Anthone likes to leave the J-tube

in the patient for 3 weeks after surgery. Some keep it longer. I use

it for liqued medication, but it can be used for ensure or other

liqued nutrition in case the stomach isn't working well. They remove

the J-tube at the first followup appointment in most cases.
