Guest guest
Stress, yes, I've had tons of it the past few weeks and got really C with bloating...I stayed legal , but eating on the run can do it. I also ate out more than usual, and I think we are sensitive to any change. So yes, it does get the best of us. Good thing I put up a big pot of chicken soup last night... I do think some of the advanced foods can bother you if you are not ready for them, even if they are not legal. Your gut is still sore. Maybe you can come up with some different recipes with foods you do enjoy- nut butter brownies, SCD ice cream, or any variety you can think of with foods you do tolerate. I'm a believer in soups. This has to start working for you! PJ > > > After 3 months of eating intro/stage 1 foods i'm still flaring for some reason. I was thinking of just eating whatever legal SCD foods I want, just to enjoy it for a bit and see what happens, but would that be just as bad as eating illegals? I don't want to go backwards even though i'm not doing too great overall. Guest guest
It's the antibiotics that did it, and there's definitely a link between UC and antibiotics. Nearly everyone i've talked to had their first onset of syptoms after using them for one type of infection or another. I guess this time they just effected me more than when I took them last time and got UC in the first place. I'll heal eventually LDN is in my near future once I can get off some of these steroids. That, or Imuran depending on how bad i'm doing once I drop down to a lower dose of prednisone. Either way, i'll get better.I've been craving fast food lately, and I was at a pastry shop in philadelphia yesterday... they offered me a free sample of cheesecake. When I refused it saying I can't have it I got a weird look from the lady offering it to me lol. will power!I wasn't shopping for myself obviously but maybe someday.-UC - 1+ yearsSCD - 8 months 100% strict and 4 months restricted diet.Asacol - 12 pills a day Prednisone 40mg entocort With vit E mixed inBack to intro/stage 1 for now.To: BTVC-SCD From: smdsmom2008@...Date: Sun, 2 May 2010 16:19:27 +0000Subject: Re: 3 months and still flaring. also butter pecan satin recipe. Guest guest
Stress obviously plays a part. But go for the colonoscopy just to rule otherthings out. Also, you might need to find a doc who will write you a script toGenova Diagnostics, so you can take a stool sample and find outwhat the heck you are fighting, so you can design a more fine tunedprogram to fight it. Guest guest
Hey , I totally agree with Mara. Get some extensive stool testing (lay off on the probiotics during and before testing a couple of days) and also see if you can get a urine dysbiosis test. You may have a critter or stubborn yeast at play. Jodi > > > > > > > After 3 months of eating intro/stage 1 foods i'm still flaring for some reason. Guest guest
You have already gotten some  other good suggestions about getting stool testing to find out what you are dealing with. It sounds like you are really having a hard time finding foods that agree with you, in spite of being on quite a lot of medicines, too. I’ll just throw out a couple of other suggestions to you, for what it’s worth. I have been following SCD for more than a year, and doing okay on it. I definitely have not had the spectacular results others have posted about, but I felt good about making slow, steady progress on reducing my meds. Then I had a flare starting in mid-February. No amount of chicken broth/chicken soup helped, things only got worse, so I went to my GI and ended up on more meds than I was on initially. Needless to say, this was very discouraging. Just in the last 2 -3 weeks I’ve found two things that seem to help me, so I’ll throw them out there in case you may want to consider them. First is I started taking Candex for yeast. After about a week, I noticed some improvement in symptoms. If you decide to go this route, don’t get Candex. It contains maltodextrin, so it is illegal. I imagine I had such bad brain fog when I bought the bottle that I overlooked that. Still, I am feeling better using the Candex so I will finish up this bottle, then replace it with Candidase, which I believe is SCD legal. The second thing I found that has helped me is to eat a lot of bacon. I know it is considered an advanced food, and only to be eaten once a week, but I noticed for two weeks in a row that after eating bacon I would have less symptoms for the next day and a half. So I have started eating a little bacon every day and noticing my symptoms are reduced. I think it is because bacon is a high fat food, and it really fills me up. I chew it really well, so it takes me a long time to eat 2 or 3 slices. Then I am full, so I eat less of other foods, which leads to less BMs, which leads to less bleeding. I know that is kind of weird suggestion, but just thought I’d throw it in the mix. Hope you find something to help you feel better soon. Guest guest
anything that you can suggest that works for you is valuable information for me. Thanks for the info! I just started taking s.boullardi so i'll see if that makes any difference. Guest guest
Heya , Send me a link and I will look at it for you- it's been a while since I have used them. Did quite a bit back in the day and early SCD days. My integrative doc uses Quest today (I know shocking) and rectal swab at my other docs office. Guest guest
My integrative doc uses Quest today (I know shocking) Jodi,How does that work? Are there very particular Questtests that the docs can prescribe that you take?If so, which ones. Mara
Guest guest
Mara, So make sure you have your doc order stool kits for a collection of 3 days (some people do it all in one day but tell the lab it's over 3) I think it is good to do it over three days. If your doc doesn't have the kit you can pick it up at a quest lab. On the requisite form have your doc write to check for Ova, Parasites, Yeasts and Culture, Funghi, Protozoa, Leukocytes Have your doc also check for blood (RBC) and fats and food particles. Hope I am not missing anything- ohh and if you are already doing it have them check Clostridia Difficile a & b. Get some paper plates or plastic bowel (one time use) and some plastic utensils as quest doesn't provide this stuff and it can turn your bathroom into a poo lab.
