Guest guest
, For me, its still hard to drink enough. Your new stomach is so small that it simply cannot hold all of that volume. What I do is drink all the time.. I always have water with me, in the car, in the bedroom, in the kitchen, in the yard. .all the time. It takes a few weeks to feel rehydrated after surgery.. then I stop about 1/2 hour before I eat so I have room to consume food. I have gotten to where I can SIP a little water or tea with my meal but that took a couple of weeks. Good luck. Guest guest
- Suzy is correct.. the limit is what your swollen new tummy will hold, not that it hurts.. it only hurts if you drink too much- I did that maybe twice, thought I was going to die, then tossed it back up. This is not a long-term deal, though. As time goes on, I can " mini-gulp " water when I'm really thirsty. I do carry water with me everywhere.. and as an early postop, I'd use popcicle molds to make watercicles.. they melted at just the right rate to " drink " them. I too was a big-time water drinker, and getting my water intake back up to MY normal was the hardest part. If you can eat ice, that might work too. Just hang in there & remember that the first month to 6 weeks will pass, & you will feel normal again. Guest guest
I'm 5 weeks post-op and am still unable to get all my fluids in daily because my new stomach is still too swollen. Don't worry, though, you won't be dying of thirst. I, too, was a big volume drinker before surgery. I'm sure I drank over a gallon a day, but now I can only do about 40-50 oz. a day. That's a lot better than when I first came home. I was lucky to get 20-30 oz. a day.
