Guest guest
Sheryl, My son has DGE and his GI mentioned the low dose Emycin. I thought that low dose Emycin mimicked cisapride (which is now off the market). But I did a quick internet search and found this explanation: " Erythromycin. This antibiotic also improves stomach emptying. It works by increasing the contractions that move food through the stomach. Side effects are nausea, vomiting, and abdominal cramps. " I am with others - it is worth a try to see if it works. Beth H Mom to Matt > > Has anyone ever heard of this protocol? Guest guest
Liam had an ear infection and was on a similar drug for 10 days. during that time we found that we had to feed him more often (he has a g-tube) and we assumed that it was because his stomach was emptying faster. I think it worked for him but we have not pursued it with his doctors at this stage. I understand that you start with a very small dose and increase it graduslly until you notice a difference. too many antibiotics can be a problem, and you should be sure that you have a strategy to replace the " good bacteria " that will be destroyed by the antibiotics. Some people use types of live yoghurt. Good luck. Damian > > Has anyone ever heard of this protocol? Guest guest
We tried this a long time ago for Colin, but it didn't help. He just vomited more than normal. I suppose it is worth a try! Guest guest
Hi Sheryl How long has Dalia been taking Periactin? My daughter Bobbi 12 months old, is the same hardly ever takes more than 2oz, most of the time less than that and like you say always looks as if it's gonna come straight back up again so I am constantly on edge she is gonna be sick. Do you think Periactin makes a difference as Bobbi is not on this only meds for reflux. Brigitte Erythromycin for DGE?? Has anyone ever heard of this protocol? We went to see Dalia's GI the other day and I mentioned how she still cannot take more than 2oz at a time very often (better with Periactin sometimes) and that she still looks like she's about to spit up often, etc, etc. Anyway, he said to give the Periactin and Mirilax some time and see if it helps increase the volume and move things through a little better, but that he has another trick up his sleeve that we can always try if need be...this is the Erythromycin..he says that at a low dose for someone with DGE it really can help. What do you know about this? Thanks, Sheryl (Dalia, SGA, 15 mos, 16lbs 5.5oz, 27.25in, Periactin, Prilosec, Mirilax)
Guest guest
Brigitte, Other than the occassional day when I feel like nothing helps, it seems to work for Dalia..she does take more food/bottle overall when on the Periactin and I do think it is worth trying. You can post here or e-mail me privately if you have more questions....I'd be happy to answer them. Sheryl > Hi Sheryl > > How long has Dalia been taking Periactin?
