Guest guest
Hi , Been there, done that. I live in Hollis NH, just a little north and west of you. We only got about 15 inches of snow. The drifting was not quite as severe as yours. The coast and the Cape (Cape Cod) got it the worst with over 30 inches of snow. Usually, I am not concerned with snow storms, but when they start making predictions in terms of feet or yards, then I take notice. Last, while this was more snow than the blizzard of 78, it was not more devasting despite the coastal flooding, and hurricane force winds (84 mph). For those of you not from New England, in 1978 we had a blizzard that paralyzed Boston for almost a week. The highways and airport were closed for days and nothing moved. The problem was, the blizzard of 78 was third in a series of 3 storms in a 2 week period that each dumped almost 2 feet of snow. Plus the blizzard of 78 lasted a couple of days, with gale force winds. It happened during and unuaslly high tide. So the strong wind and extra high tide caused massive flooding coupled with a mammoth snow storm. It was sort of the Perfect storm but with snow. Homes were destroyed, many people died, boats sunk, harbors destroyed, cars and people stranded in snow drifts for days. A true disaster. This storm was bad, with strong winds, deep snow and even deeper snow drifts, but by tomorrow or Wednesday, we should be back to normal and ready to route for the Pats in the Super Bowl. So, I hope you can get out soon , take it easy shoveling. Guest guest
HiKen, I remember that storm in 1978. I grew up on the coast of Maine and my father worked as a journalist so we drove all over the place while he took pictures and school was out. I miss it there terribly. Guest guest
Hi Kathy, I too grew up in Maine -- South Portland Maine. I spent all my summers on Little Sebago in Gray. I too miss my home state, but I am close here in New Hampshire. Ken M > HiKen, > > I remember that storm in 1978. Guest guest
Oh you poor thing!! Glad you finally made it in to your warm house. We got about 25 inches in Quincy with high drifts too but not as high as yours on my street. I had to shovel my way out of my drive way this morning again.Shoveling Saturday Sunday and I paid a plow to widen the drive way yesterday. Well about midnight the city decided to plow and all the work that we did and the plow is now back in my driveway because we are on a corner. When is spring? Mor snow Wednesday. I work in Boston too and these sidewalks are one person passable or slide down bank.
