Guest guest
Hi Mike and those interested in asthma educational pieces for migrants: I do not know of a power point for parents, but I do know of several good promotora curricula that could easily be adapted for parents. 1) MCN has one. You can contact me directly if you are interested. 2) The Center for Environmental Resource Management (CERM) at UT El Paso. Contact their policy and outreach department. http://research.utep.edu/Default.aspx?tabid=15655. 3) Farmworker Justice has some good curricula for promotoras http://www.farmworkerjustice.org/curriculum.htm For handouts to give to parents you might be interested in the following resources: 1) A great comic book by CERM. It’s done by the same team of folks that have worked on a lot of MCN’s comic books. You can down load the English or Spanish version from the MCN website. Below is the direct link. If that doesn’t work go to the main page www.migrantclinician.org and search for Breathing Easy at Home. http://www.migrantclinician.org/toolsource/environmental-and-occupational-health/breathing-easy-homeuna-casa-libre-de-problemas-resp 2) MCN and Rural Family Development created a radio novella that might be useful. You can download the mp3 file here: http://www.migrantclinician.org/toolsource/resource/respiratory-problems-los-problemas-respiratorios.html 3) FJ on their website has nice parent handout. http://www.farmworkerjustice.org/Health & Safety/resources1.htm#Train Hope that helps. Guest guest
Dear Mike, NCFH has developed a program that can be used by parents entitled "Healthy Environment, Healthy Lungs". A brief description follows. If you have any questions, please contact on our staff at gonzales@.... Healthy Environment, Healthy Lungs is a comprehensive educational program especially designed for lay health workers. This culturally sensitive English and Spanish program and the accompanying materials provide basic information on the environment and how pollution affects health. The three modules contained in the curriculum address the environment and its impact on disease, general asthma information, and a section on empowering the community. This program includes a training curriculum and an educational flip chart to be used by the lay health workers in the community. The intent of the program is that it will empower individuals with the knowledge they need to manage their asthma, and to access the proper channels for improving the environment.
