gold-dust@...>>>>>>

you echo my sentiments here........

I am considering the surgery ONLY because I fear what the future will bring

in terms of my health. I weigh 242 (5'4 1/2 " ) and have a BMI of 40>>>>>>>

You are now where I was one year ago. My biggest fear was dying before my

time and with increasing health problems as I got older. I was 245 and 5 "

4 " tall prior to surgery and today Im down 84 lbs and fit into size 12

comfortably! My life is jubliant! I had no adverse thoughts about this

surgery......I was SOLD! I went in with perfect peace and knew I was doing

the right thing. I can not thank my surgeon enough for the miracle of

rebirth he gave me. (He knows now cuz I squeezed him hard when he hugged me

lol) Im also close to your age......57 and not getting any younger. My

husband also had the surgery 2 days after me and hes doing fantastic. We

now have many more years to look forward to becuz of this miracle.

If youve done all your homework and are not convinced then its not time for

you to go thru this. If there is one more diet you have not tried you are

better off trying that to make sure you can not be successful here.

You said:

it scares me to take a perfectly

healthy body and subject it to drastic measures so as to avoid potential

future problems.>>>>>>>

what healthy body? Its just a matter of time before adverse condtions hit

you and then you might not be very healthy to undergo such a

procedure.......it is a drastic measure but one that will give you a totally

new life. I thank God every day for this wonderful surgery and the surgeon

who made my new life possible. I would do it all over again many many times

if that is what it took to get to where I am today!

Hugs, Judie

I dont know why you no longer have interest in the things you

mentioned, you are still a young woman! Be that as it may, your age

should not be a factor.. your going to turn 60 anyway. Make the

decision for your life, for the rest of your life, however you choose

to live it. Be well!

Love, Sue

You and I are in the same boat...the only difference (other than age and

that my BMI is 45) is that those nasty little co-morbs are creeping up to me

now. I've developed a snoring problem that has my husband dreaming of his

own room, and the ENT thinks I probably have sleep apnea, too. (Sleep study

is scheduled for tomorrow.) Ever heard about the surgery to " cure " snoring?

It's horrifying.

I saw my PCP last month...my BP is now borderline. Add this to my high

cholesterol levels,a nd I feel like I'm falling apart. What's next?

Full-on high BP? Diabetes? I " m not waiting around to find out.

Is this a good reason to have surgery?

It took me about a year from the time I started researching surgery to

the time I had it done. My BMI was 50.8 down from an all time high of

BMI 54. I too was healthy just obese. It took 7 months from the when

my PCP put in the paperwork to surgery day. In those 7 months I went

from borderline hypertension to out of control. I also went from

normal to insulin dependant type 2 diabetic. Your health can change

quickly, making surgery much riskier.

You know what you need, listen to your body and listen to your

intuition, it will never steer you wrong.
