Guest guest
I had something like this happen to me years ago...no surgery before. It came on suddenly and was in my lower left side about even with my hipbone. I had colitus (not sure of spelling) but it is an infection in the colon. Yes, the slightest move was very painful. Seemed like everything was tender. But a few drugs and it was cleared right up! Just an idea. Guest guest
hi, I had not eaten spaghetti in six months, had some plain spaghetti at a friends house, thought I would burst open like in alien, the next day I had awful pain, I thought it might be a gall bladder attack which I had heard about, I went in to see my reg doc, he attributed the pain to acid production and back up into the esophagus. I had just started wellbutrin, he thought it might have made my stomach more sensitive and the spaghetti could have pushed me over the edge, all speculation, but the facts were, spaghetti, and awful pain! so maybe something here will ring a bell. My pain was isolated just at the sternum, middle fo the chest, not necessarily intestinal gas pain, though some gas was present. lennyB __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi - Sorry to hear of your problem. Yes, it could be a hernia and I suggest taking it easy. When will you be coming back to N>Y>? When you do, I would go to the emergency room and check this out. My friend has very bad problems from a hernia and she had the DS and has to have surgery. It caused her alot of pain all around and it wasn't a blockage but it was not a good situation. Please let us know how you are doing and maybe put in a call to Dr. Gagner as an emergency to discuss this if you won't be home soon. I have spastic colon and I had it this bad once before about a year ago (before surgery) and that necessitated a bunch of tests and a colonoscopy (which formally diagnosed it). I took an anti-spasmodic/muscle relaxant and the next morning -- I was back to normal! Glory Hallejulia! I remember my colon dr. gave me some anti-spasmodics and I was taking them for awhile after my colon episodes. I hope it doesn't happen again - and I guess I should always have the muscle relaxants on hand just in case! I had been doing so good for about a year so I took it for granted that I'd ever have to take those meds again! So, I'm back to my normal self (thank God) and don't even know I have a colon!!! But, this lasted two entire nights and a full day! Ouch! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/Mt. Scarey!!!! Hurts like heck but it time it went away. I never knew gas could be so painful! I too thought if a blockage but I have had two of those too and this was different. Hang in there! This too shall pass. I was never really able to figure out what caused it all. Let me know if you do! I feel for you! Been there. But i figure it is less pain then i felt each and everyday at over 300 pounds! Not much comfort right now when you are hurting I know !! ((HUGSZ)) >> Deanna: Thanks for the hugsz ... sure can use them! Thank GOD the episode is over! I took a muscle relaxant and was fine the next morning. Damn, that was painful! I think it was my spastic colon TOTALLY spazzing out.. and I also had gas the whole time... It was paralyzing to say the least! :) I'm just so relieved it wasn't a blockage or anything more serious. That's little comfort when one is going through such extreme pain, but like you said 'this, too shall pass'!!! Sorry to hear about your two blockages --- man, you are doing great! 179 lbs!! YOu had your surgery after me (and had a higher bmi). Now, I really feel like a slowpoke here! ROFL I got to get to that damn 100 mark (I think I'm still on this 2 week plateau of 213 sigh). You better believe I'll let EVERYONE know and SHOUT FROM THE ROOFTOPS when I (HOPEFULLY) get to 179!!!!!!! Congrats to you! all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. GAgner/mt. Sinai/NYC almost 9 months post-op and still feelin' fabu (again! Guest guest
" Been there, done that, told I had an esophageal spasm, and had my GB out six days later with 37 stones in it. " I thought that I was the only one misdiagnosed. I kept having gall bladder attacks, and I would call the doctor's office to see if I should go to the hospital. They said I was just experiencing a virus that was making its rounds. This happened twice, and always an on call doc after hours. Finally when I called the office during regular hours, the receptionist diagnosed me (she didn't actually tell me, but she guessed it and made arrangements for me to have an ultrasound.) Before I could get to the hospital I developed a bad, painful case of pancreatitis. Spent 2 weeks in hospital! Don't take chances with this! Get checked out! Guest guest
Lenny: If you still have a gall bladder, and the pain was on the right side, under your ribs and possibly shooting to your right flank area, it is likely gallbladder. Usually triggered by rich or spicy foods - often underdiagnosed by doctors (only true test is a gallbladder ultrasound, but clinically easier to diagnose). The pain had probably gone away by the time you saw your MD, right? Been there, done that, told I had an esophageal spasm, and had my GB out six days later with 37 stones in it. __________________________________________________
