Guest guest
I have a bit of a hard time understanding Dr. Ren's new found commitment to a new surgery. If my understanding is correct, she spent time in her residency learning the DS under Gagner. I suspect that this was a fairly lengthy exposure to the DS. Now she has gone to a meeting in Crete to a meeting and that has changed her mind. Which way will the wind blow tomorrow? She also talks about Baltasar as being part of her decision. Has he now changed his mind? Hmmmm. His website says: " After many years of using the different approaches to WLS (RNY in the 70's, VBG in the 80's, LAP-RNY again in the 90's) I recommend my patients the BPD/DS since the weight losses and QOL are the best. " Did Dr. Ren misunderstand him? Best- Nick in Sage
Guest guest
" I also spent much time speaking with Dr. Scopinaro and Dr. Baltasar, a BPD and a BPD/DS surgeon, in addition to others. Where does it say in that statement that Dr Baltasar has changed his mind. She says she spoke with a BPD surgeon and a DS surgeon. In context with the rest of the letter, I assume they were comparing stories of complications as that is what the rest of her message was in regards to. And Dr Baltasar has had plenty of complications. Not that they are his fault. We all know what the complications to this surgery is and Dr Ren choses not to go that route. It has nothing to do with her skill as a surgeon. As Barbi can testify, Dr Ren spent 10 hours hand sewing her guts because her intestines were too small for the staple gun. And the 8 hours that she spent on me cutting through adhesions. And many more that I will not name. This is a tough/rough surgery, can go really wrong. It is our choice if we chose to have this surgery. We chose a surgeon that will perform it and take our chances. But if a surgeon decides to go another route and we don't want to go down that road, we simply find another surgeon. Dr Ren should be removed from the website as a surgeon that will do the DS and we should all go on with our lives and the pre-ops should go on with the search for a surgeon. As far as my oversimplifing the insurance part of it, I was probably wrong again. But with a BPD, the surgeon can use the RNY codes and get away with it. That is where I was basing my assumptions. And we all know what assume means, right? PS For those who know and care: GLO is doing great. Her last tests showed no signs of tumor. So the radiation therapy has worked. Her surgeon also said that she would probably start to lose weight on her own once her medication gets regulated.
