Can you ask your doctor to switch you to Zithromax? You only take

that antibiotic for 3-5 days depending on how your doctor prescribes

the dosing of the " Z-Pack " . That's what my doc gives us when we get

strep. I know that after 24 hours of being on an antibiotic, you are

usually no longer contagious with strep. I don't think that would

affect your surgery date at all. Why not call Dr. Hess' nurse just

for peacce of mind.

I got tonsilitits right before surgery. I finished my meds 2 days

before. I was told that so long as I am not sick on the day that I

was admitted, there was no problem. And there was not. I was

operated on 9/4 at 10am, no problem-O!

Good luck and I am sure you will have TON of peeps saying some

prayers for your fast recovery. I'll be one of those peeps. :-)

I remember from my old strep days that after the first day of dosing,

you will test negative for strep. I think the following 6-9 days is

prophylactic. I am sure my medical friends on this board will

correct my assumptions, however, you should be fine! I'll be

crossing my fingers for you!

P.S. My surgery is on the 19th and both husband and son have the

plague. I am so scared that I will keep fighting it off just until

the surgery date! Shrieks!

I had surgery on January 11 and I was on antibiotics up until 2 or 3

days before surgery. And everything turned out fine, if you have any
