Thanks .......do you think we should ask our surgeons to check every

Judie: I don't think it's necessary with the DS at all, but I would have a

serious talk with one's surgeon/pcp if one has the BPD. That is where the

risk is incurred -- when the lower stomach is removed.

I mean, if I had a BPD, I would show the statistics and studies on peptic

ulcer patients to the doctor and discuss my concern about possible future

testing. I don't think they have an easy test for instant diagnosis but I'm

sure they are working on this (the Lustgarten or Lustgarden Foundation is

very active in pancreatic cancer research). I would think that if you

experience vague intestinal symptoms that the doctor remember that pancreatic

cancer ***MAY** be possible and to take it as a serious consideration instead

of just chalking it only up to 'post-op' aches and pains. :)

all the best,

Ok .....I guess all the surgeons are very aware of what might possibly

happen and they also (if they are a general surgeon) have done surgeries on

the pancreas in the past so perhaps its nothing to worry about with the DS

unless one has very vague pains etc.....

One question I forgot to ask......why are you more apt to get pancreatic

cancer if the lower stomach is removed? What happens to change all of that

where the pancreas comes in?
