Guest guest
Beth: I am very upset with my country--again. I understand that swine flu can add to lung scaring. I live in Michigan and I have asking when swine flu shots would be available. Today I found a drug store that had the vaccine in stock and was giving the vaccine. I was told that at age 73 and suffering with IPF that I was not eligible. So I got to look at the eligible criteria. I found that if I was 64 or under and I had simply pulmonary fibrosis I would eligible for swine flu vaccination. I did not believe Palin's description of death panels Now we have exactly that--a determination of who should live and who should die. I could understand this if I wanted something as costly as a lung transplant. Guest guest
! What a chilling and aggravating experience. My husband, Rich and I have been discussing how easily one of us could be on the who should live and who should die. I'm so sorry and so scared. Rich will be 80 soon and I am 71. Some time back I commented to the board about Obama's health plan and what it will really mean to we older/sick people. Keep trying , perhaps someplace else you may still receive the vaccine. We cannot find ANYPLACE who has the H1N1. I wonder if we will be turned away should it be available. I'm in Oregon BTW. MamaSher; 71, IPF 3-2006, OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
I understand your frustration but this has nothing to do with Palin or Obama or any other politician or political issue. It's very simply a matter of them prioritizing those at greatest risk. It starts with kids and pregnant women. The vast majority of those to die have been very young. We've had quite a few in our area. Then we'll all get it. The age again isn't a matter of someone condemning you for being old, but it is a matter of greater likelihood of you having built immunity to H1N1 by either having it or being exposed to it during a previous outbreak. It's also a matter of what they've found out so far about risk. No one would argue that everyone needs the vaccine. However, there isn't enough out there yet for everyone even if some pharmacies might have some that no one has gone to get. The distribution system is struggling in other ways. For instance, Dallas and Fort Worth have both started some vaccines but I live in another county and none has started in my county yet. There are also instances of those administering it not knowing the rules well and turning away those deserving it as well. Yes, it's lousy that everyone can't have it or didn't get the vaccination two months ago. Here is the CDC information:The new 2009 H1N1 virus does not seem to be affecting people 65 years and older in the same way that seasonal flu usually does. Most people who have gotten sick from this new virus have been younger. In fact, people 65 and older are the group that is least likely to get infected with this new virus. There have been relatively few infections and even fewer cases of serious illness and death with this new virus in people older than 65. Laboratory tests on blood samples indicate that older people likely have some pre-existing immunity to the 2009 H1N1 flu virus. But while people 65 and older are the least likely to be infected with 2009 H1N1 flu, those that do become infected are at greater risk of having serious complications from their illness.> > > >From: Beth mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com>> >Subject: Checking in from Chattanooga TN> >To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com> >Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009, 8:45 PM> >> >> > > >Hi all! > >After a longish day in the car I'm happy to report the safe arrival in Chattanooga of myself, Peggy and , Teri Marietta and Jane. Guest guest
Sher There is none yet available in the county I live in. My doctors have not even heard a word about their distribution. It's a spotty delivery situation it appears, state by state and county by county. Much is also determined by how the local health departments have decided to handle it. Because of availability some cities are more restrictive than others right now too. For instance, the health department in Dallas was vaccinating today but not even to all kids, just to those within the youngest age group or with other health issues, as well as to pregnant women. There have been cases of some pharmacies and some medical facilities not following the guidelines. There is a facility in Farmers Branch (about 20 miles from me) that is under investigation right now. I don't know for the life of me how Palin and Obama got brought into this. I was going to blame it all on Quincy myself. > > > From: Beth mbmurtha (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> > Subject: Checking in from Chattanooga TN > To: Breathe-Support@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Thursday, October 29, 2009, 8:45 PM > > > > > Hi all! > After a longish day in the car I'm happy to report the safe arrival in Chattanooga of myself, Peggy and , Teri Marietta and Jane.
