Guest guest
rather that not all morbidly obese people SHOULD have DS. This is only MHO Respectfully, Marcia Marcia, Can you tell me how Dr. Ren or other docs who do the DS help the patient determine whether they should have the DS or not? One thing I have heard is that some Dr's think the DS should only be for the super morbidly obese. I am a little confused on this area. Lifestyle wise I want the DS. My BMI is 41, is that an indicator that some docs would say do a different procedure? i
Guest guest
i, My BMI was 42 so in my case it had nothing to do with whether or not your BMI was high. Your level of understanding and what is expected of you post opt determines much of it. Dr Welker does this to help you make a decision on what you want done...... He asks you one question: Can you deal with the problems above the waist or below the waist? Hope that helps hugs, Judie
Guest guest
i, When I went for my consult in March, I only knew about the RNY (didn't even know the name, just that it was the " Carnie " procedure). Dr. Ren explained, with charts and drawings the DS as well as the RNY. She explained the advantages, disadvantages, and complications inherent to each procedure. She the asked me which procedure I felt fit my lifestyle and eating pattern. I have always been a carnivore, preferring protein to carbs (though I love vegetables and fruit, I can live without the starches and pure sugars). I also do a lot of social eating with my DH and friends and didn't want to restrict my eating out. I chose DS, explaining my reasons, and Dr. Ren concurred. At the time, my weight was 281, my BMI was 54, so I could be considered super morbidly obese. My surgery was in July; it was, as has been my recovery, unremarkable. My weight is now 207, BMI 39, and I just bought my first pair of size 18, non-stretch, trousers in a decade! Good luck to you in whatever course you take.
