Guest guest
I am really REALLY late in responding to this thread but I will chime in as well. Adam (12 years old) has always been a good sleeper. In fact I think he sleeps too much. He is a night owl, no question, he'd stay up all night if I let him. But he has slept long since he was a baby. People use to envy me terribly because my 2 year olds (my daughter as well) would sleep in until 10ish or even 11. As I get older, and with my bad back, I find I can't sleep much past 8 a.m. but my kids (12, and 15) don't get up until noon. Adam has had 2 sleep studies now because he use to fall asleep the minute he got home from school (before dinner, and I was frantic he wasn't eating). Once he started growth hormone, he stopped that falling asleep at 4 p.m. (and he'd be GONE AND OUT until the next day). On holidays and weekends he averages 12 hours a night. He use to be 14 hours a couple of years ago. The doctors can't figure out why, but he does have a sleep disorder. They can't do much about it. He travels in his sleep. He moves so much, he's not getting a full nights sleep. Related to growth?? The sleep doctor told me that yes kids grow when they are asleep but his lack of growth is this B--I--G- of a problem (imagine him holding his arms apart as wide as he can) and the sleep problems would cause this much of a problem (imagine him putting his fingers apart). So no, it wasn't the WHOLE reason he was small. So now during the school year he is on clonzapam. It seems to help him sleep more soundly (perhaps why he has only needed 12 hours now????? instead of 14). He also does better in school when he's had the full 12 hours but it's hard to put a 12 year old to bed at 7 p.m.!!!!!!
