Guest guest
Walt, It is hard to believe that your doctor doesn't want you to do the right thing and help you get into a situation in which you can safely breathe as you should. If you file for disability with Social Security, he will have to cooperate with them. Social Security may also ask you to see an independent pulmonologist at their expense. If they do, this would add some time. But knowing this may ease your mind as to your doctor's helping you. If you go down to your local Social Security office, I think you will be reassurred as reguards your chances for being declaired disabled. If you can talk confidentially with someone in personnel at your work, you may feel easier about such things as insurance and retirement benefits which may affect your disability payments. I was self-employed, but I remember well the insecurity of leaving that security blanket behind. I am still looking for that bit of self worth I left behind at the job. Guest guest
You definitely need to find a new doctor. Guest guest
Please try another pulmonary Doctor. I have had IPF for nearly a year along with a competing Asthma condition. My local lung Doctor continues to say I do not have an Asthmatic problem. I have filled up on allergies this year. My VA P.D. tested me for these conditions and began a different treatment for asthma conditions. I had to move out of my for at least six weeks due to a reaction to mold, dust and chemicals. Today I met with an allergy Doctor for the first time and I am now taking shots. He said it may be a year before I get relief. I work approximately six hours each spiting up white stuff from both nasal cavities and lungs. I do not know anyone else with this same problem. Go for disability without delay. In Michigan a well documented case takes less than 120 days. Guest guest
Walt,Ask your doctor for another referral to go back to the UWMC for an evaluation. I'm sure the doctors there would help you out with the filing of SSI disability. Back in 2005 my brother was seen and diagnosed at the UWMC for IPF and he got his SSI disability approved within 2 months. Unfortunately, he was at the end stage of the disease and only received one payment.
