Hi all,

Last week I had my consult with Herron, M.D. and was approved

for surgery, I'm pleased to tell you. He mentioned that some people who

have the DS experience halitosis and body odor, as different from the

odor of flatulence. Have any of you noticed general body odor increase?

More to the point, I think, has anybody else noticed on you!?!

Thanks,

Judie,

You mean you don't smell like anything?? Not even clean

laundry?? LOL...just kidding. :)

I know about the halitosis...rapid weight loss and ketosis often

lead to bad breath, but it shouldn't last forever. I wonder who is

reporting the odor? If it's the patients reporting the body odor, I

wonder if it has something to do with the heightened sensitivity

to odors in general that some people report post-operatively??

Then again, people metabolize foods differently. If I eat a lot of

garlic, you can smell it ON my skin, not just on my breath

(especially right before important business meetings...LOL).

Maybe some people have that kind of reaction to the protein-rich

diet after surgery?

Then again, maybe I just need to get some sleep. :)

I've been in the DS community for 2.5 years now, and interacted

personally with dozens of DS post-op. Never, ever have a smelled a bad

odor or bad breath on any of them. I've been in a closed meeting room

with dozens of DS post-ops, for a couple of hours -- many times! -- and

never, even smelled anything unpleasant emanating from anyone in any

form.
