Guest guest
Claire Calcium chloride is generally regarded as safe (GRAS) as a food additive. In the case of canned vegetables, it is used to keep the vegetables firm. Technically, it is OK for use while on SCD. Calcium chloride doesn’t appear on any of the illegal additive lists on the SCD websites. However that is no guarantee that your own body will accept it, especially over long-term use. Also remember that processing aids used by manufacturers don’t have to be listed on package labels. That’s one of the risks buying foods that others have processed. Your body may or may not react to these ingredients. So, if you decide to go ahead and buy a can of Cento tomatoes, just proceed cautiously until you know your body will accept the item. If you develop symptoms later on, consider stopping the use of Cento tomatoes in case there is a problem. Kim M. SCD 6 years Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction 6+ years neurological & spinal deterioration 3+ years >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> I was perusing cans of Cento tomatoes the other day while picking up ingredients for some soup I was making, and I noticed that one particular variety had " calcium chloride " as an additive. I was not sure if this was OK or not, so I opted out of buying it, but I was wondering if anyone knew if this was " legal " or not. I couldn't find anything online, other than learning that calcium chloride is a type of salt used as a thickening agent in foods. Any thoughts? Thanks!
