,I would toss the milk and keep the starter if it were me. If the starter didn't work on the next batch, I would toss the starter too -- but I think it will be o.k. The milk, however, has just been out too long in my opinion, but I would see if someone else says differently.AmeliaTo: btvc-scd Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 1:01:09 PMSubject: Yogurt starter on counter and late???

I made yogurt late last night. Even though the starter was right near the yogurt maker I forgot to put it in and I forgot to put the starter in the fridge.

I just added the starter but is it bad? It has been 7 hours. Bummer that was supposed to be for shortcake.

What do you think? Should I throw it away?

I forgot to say that the milk was in the yogurt maker all night. Would that make

a difference?

Is there anyone at your house who could give it a tiny taste to see if it is

okay or not?

I think it could be okay - but if there is any doubt, toss it. Also, depends on

how fresh the milk was.

,I would definitely toss the milk and not try to use it. There is too high of a risk of it incubating some wild yeast/bacteria without the beneficial bacteria countering it and turning the milk more acidic to kill them.Freeze dried starter should be o.k. if its container was closed. If it was fresh starter however, I would definitely toss it too.AmeliaTo: btvc-scd Sent: Sat, May 8, 2010 1:15:53 PMSubject: Re: Yogurt starter on counter and late???
