Guest guest
Hi all, Well we decided to revisit the ER on Sunday since Dalia still had diarrhea and vomiting and was not getting better and I felt like she was dehydrated. Dalia was admitted and immediately put on an IV of fluids, a shot of glucose and then continuous dextrose. She had low blood sugar, was acidotic and had ketones (I insisted they take urine to check). By Monday afternoon, after a very long evening of hardly any sleep, her levels were all normal and the diarrhea and vomiting stopped so we came home. They put her on a lactose free formula for today and if all stayed down, and it did, we can start Pediasure again tomorrow. I checked her ketones today and they were at moderate, which kind of surprises me, but I'm assuming that with her keeping down the formula it should go completely down soon. I just have to make sure she drinks enough...she wasn't so into drinking a lot, which I understand..I certainly don't want to eat anything when not feeling well. She was also extremely tired all day and was catching up on sleep. Anyway, I've learned that I should never second guess myself about taking her to the ER the moment this type of thing happens. I seriously drove myself crazy before returning to the ER on Sunday because we were there on Friday and they sent us home saying she didn't need an IV. I should have insisted then. So, does anyone have any experiences to share on how things typically go once returning home from the hospital? I'd appreciate any insight. Take care, Sheryl (Dalia, 16 mos, SGA, now around 16 lbs, 27.25in)
