Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I have been using Yogourmet yogourt starter that has L.bularicus, S.thermophilus, and L.acidophilus. I ran out of the starter and went to the store to buy some more. They didn't have any on the shelf and the guy went to the back to see if they had any. He came back with a box that looks a little different, so I looked at the ingredients. It has some more ingredients. It has L.casei, B.longum, L.bulgaricus, S.thermophilus, and L.acidophilus. On the cover of the box it advertises Casei, Bifidus, and Acidophilus. Is this new Yogourmet yogurt starter ok to use? Otherwise, I will try a different store to see if I can find my original box. Thanks Cheri
Guest guest
This is exactly the yogurt starter I first bought before making my first batch of yogurt. I then got home, googled what B.longum is and found out it is Bifidus which is illegal! I gave the box to my sister and eventually found the starter without any Bifidus. Same brand name, just no bifidus - and not every place sells it as I found out. Guest guest
As long at it's the Danon Full Fat plain yogurt. The low fat and no fat varieties have pectin added to them. Guest guest
I took a look at the store the other day and couldn't find any plain yogurt. Would just using X capsules of my SCDophilus work as a starter? I saw on Lucy's site that the Lyosan caps she sells are the same potency. Yes the All Natural Dannon with no sugar or additives is legal and works great as a yogurt starter. I've also heard that the greek style yogurt Fage is a good legal starter and makes the yogurt less tart but I haven't been able to find Fage yet. No, to make yogurt, you need s. thermophilus, l. bulgaricus, AND l. acidophilus. (or l. casei, in place of the l. acidophilus) — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund Babette the Foundling Beagle
