Guest guest
Not sure where you saw this, but this is interesting that you mention the nutiva brand... We have 2 brands here at home, heartland gold and nutiva and I thought it was just my imagination or something, but now that you mention it, I've noticed in myself that I have more difficulty tolerating the nutiva brand than heartland gold. If I overdo coconut oil in general I feel nauseous and crummy, but I've noticed that the onset of nausea and feeling generally ill comes on with smaller amounts of nutiva than it would with larger amounts heartland gold (and this has happened consistently, so it wasn't just a day when my system was weaker or something). I hope in your case as well that it is just the brand that is affecting you and not coconut oil in general. -Meli > > Was it here or on Pecanbread that someone mentioned having a problem > with this brand ? > > If you've had any experiences good or bad, I'd appreciate hearing them. > > I'm still not recovered from trying coconut oil again---Nutiva > brand---and was interested to hear it might be the brand and not the oil > causing a problem. > > Thanks, > > Sue R > dearly needing fats >
Guest guest
Sue, Here’s my experience with coconut oil. When I tried swallowing a tsp. of Virgin Coconut Oil for the 1st time, my throat felt so scratchy. After trying that a few times, and getting the same scratchy throat reaction every time I concluded it was a (bad) reaction to coconut oil. At that time I was using Spectrum Virgin Coconut Oil. After reading some posts about Tropical Traditions Gold Label & Expeller Pressed Coconut Oil that everyone raved about as superior, I ordered some and tried swallowing a tsp. I had NO adverse reaction – no scratchy throat. So now I conclude that it is the processing method that makes this brand of coconut oil tolerable for me. So, Tropical Traditions brand might be more tolerable for you too. Their coconut products are minimally processed. See TropicalTraditions.com They often have sales. Guest guest
Hi Sue, I currently have Nutiva right now. The only other kind I've tried is Nature's Way. I haven't noticed any bad reaction from the Nutiva, but if I have too much coconut oil, I do feel nauseous. I usually have a couple of tablespoons a day, and that seems to work for me. Hope you're feeling better soon! Guest guest
I appreciate all the replies. I've been assuming as Carol did, that I'm intolerant of coconut oil. But usually I can tolerate things I had little of pre- major GI illness, just hasn't worked yet. I'll have to try the Tropical Traditions and see if I have a better response. I'm hoping they have a shipping special soon--I can try their 16 oz jar, but would have to pay $9 shipping on a $20 item :-( Sue R
