Guest guest
Thanks for answering my post.....I feel this is so very important to address and Im suprised nobody else is even thinking about it. The FBI has just stated on the news tonight that we could be hit again either here or overseas so this is not over by a long shot. Im not in a panic mode but I do want to be prepared with prenatals, calcium and protein for the long term if need be. We can not afford to ignore the possibility that we might need to prepare for this. J

I posted awhile ago (soon after Sept 11) about stocking up on things (not just vitamins but protein sources and also other canned goods). It has been addressed... Others responded saying it was a really good idea to have a stock of vitamins on hand. all the best,
Guest guest
, I must have missed it! Can you give me some hints on proteins to store other than jerky, tuna and chili! Thanks! Judie

Thanks! >> Judie: That's pretty much what I have... with the exception of corned beef hash (canned and has quite a bit of protein if you like it, it's pretty salty though). Soy is also a good source of protein (like soy drinks - I get them in little packets akin to the Parmelat milk)... I don't know how many people are doing this, but I know some commented that they have already! I live in Brooklyn but recently drove to Michigan for awhile. I brought my vitamin supply but have to build up the little pantry again! That sucks! It was so exhausting to do that.. I've read a lot of sources that say everyone should have a 72-hour pack (portable in case of the need to evacuate) that has bottled water, food, medicine, battery/solar/wind up radio, flashlight, etc. since it takes roughly 72 hours for emergency teams to set up shop in an affected area. all the best,

I dont like things too salty so corned beef is probably not going to be on my list. The thing is to remember to rotate them all so nothing gets wasted. >> Judie: Thanks for the hugs! I went on my Michigan shopping trip today -- They have some really, really COOL stuff! Dehydrated foods -- couscous and soups with beans... canned chicken with all kinds of flavors (lemon, italian!)... I went wild! ROFL Another idea is Vienna Sausages - they have that flip-top cap a lot of the time. I found some neat chicken vienna sausages backhome that the kids like, too. You're so right about rotating the food --- You're the one who gave me pointers on survival planning, girlfriend! LOL At least I know DH is prepared in NYC --- I am somewhat prepared here (although I noticed I didn't get almost everything - like duct tape and plastic for windows in case of chemical emergency to seal them --- but I got enough food, gosh darnit! LOL). Now, the reason I came here to northern MI was to AVOID all that stuff (chemical, bio, etc.) but one never knows, right????? They just diagnosed an NBC employee (at Rockefeller Center) with subcutaceous (skin) anthrax! What the hell???? It's not as fatal or as severe as the inhaled kind, but really, really scary nonetheless... all the best, lap ds with gallbladder removal January 25, 2001 Dr. Gagner/mt.
