Guest guest
Hi, Meaghan, Have a wonderful time out! while I do have a hand-me-down Yogourmet, I have been making yogurt in the oven for many months now. It is fun to see the temp stay stable-- I put a thermometer probe in the yogurt and the reader of the digital thermometer outside the oven on a stool. Temp stays level at 100 with a 40 watt bulb. Was 110 with with a 60 watt bulb. I make prep the milk as usual, mix in starter, etc. I take the chill off the oven first, heat it to lowets temp, about 150, briefly, then let it cool down-- then I put the yogurt-to-be into the oven. I use several different jars: I bought a 2 quart jar from either Lucy's or Digestive Wellness. I use that, and perhaps some empty quart jars. Works well, and while I love useful kitchen tools, I love not buying an unnecessary gadget. Hope you get to try this while yu are away. If there is no lightbulb in oven, you can buy an inexpensive light fixture, a light socket with an electric cord, basically, and place that, plugged in and turned on, in the oven. Ruth 12a.Miami boundPosted by: " Jarensky " meaghan1031@... meaghan1031Thu Apr 1, 2010 2:12 pm (PDT) I'm traveling to South Breach Miami next week for 11 days. We're staying in an apartment with a full kitchen, but I'm a little concerned because I of course can't bring along my dehydrater which I use weekly to make yogurt. I've never made it in the oven. Can anyone give me some tips on that? Would anyone happen to know of any places to eat, or any other advice or tips?? I haven't been away from home this long since starting SCD and am a little concerned. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Guest guest
Hey Meaghan! Good luck getting everything together- I leave Sunday for Miami! We can channel our SCD-ness I am only going for 5 days, but I think even if I was heading out for 11, yogurt is one thing I would just make at home and send through with my luggage (it is very cold in cargo). I just get some big thermoses and fill those up! I feel for you though- even preparing 5 days worth of food can be quite the headache. Can't wait to field all of the questions from the TSA. I finally learned that applesauce, no matter how frozen, is considered a liquid. And frozen veggies make great ice packs! I hope it's warm and sunny for us -Joanna SCD 9/2009, Crohn's 1992, 27.5 mg Prednisone > > Hi, Meaghan, > > Have a wonderful time out! while I do have a hand-me-down Yogourmet, > I have been making yogurt in the oven for many months now. Guest guest
Well I didn't make enough yogurt for the whole time but brought what I had in the fridge in a thermos, which made it through fine. I think I will try the oven yogurt if I get to pick up a thermometer-thanks Ruth for the instructions! Just went to Whole Foods and picked up a few things, so I think I'm good. Joanna, weather is absolutely beautiful here, have a great time!! Thanks! Meaghan Sent from my iPhone
