Guest guest
I'm sorry, it seems no one has responded to your post yet. It's been a busy few days, and it might have gotten lost in the shuffle. Do you have any success keeping his head on the non-flat side if you go in and turn it after he's asleep? I know some moms do get up every hour or so to move the baby's head. Not ideal, but it helps. Unfortunately, I was never told to repo so I didn't try too many techniques other than the wedge, which he always wiggled out of. You can do a search of old messages and get some tips that way. I'm just drawing a blank right now on any other techniques. Are you successful at keeping him up off his head as much as possible during the day? Have you seen any positive changes since your original post? Jake-2.5 (DOCBand Grad 9/08) Jordan-5 > > Hello everyone. I really need your help, any help would be appreciated. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. If Nate is completely asleep then I can go in and turn his head, however if he's not fast asleep then it'll wake him up or he'll fuss and fidget and put his head back on the flat spot. What I have been doing is going into his room at night when I think he is fast asleep and putting him back into the wedge. THis way he has to be completely awake to be able to get himself back out of it. We have some some improvement since we started with the repo. Mostly in the first couple weeks. I've been taking pictures every two weeks. But right now it seems as though we've hit a bit of a plateau in the treatment. But we'll keep trying. I am writing this to you from Canada and when we went in to see the specialist at a well respected major hospital, she told me that they don't do measurements in any way. She told me to start with the repo and see how that goes. But she didn't take any pictures or measure ments and she did was write down that he had slight plagio and mild tort. So I have no idea how she is going to know if there is improvement after two months. This is why I started taking the pics myself. I asked around a couple pediatricians and other specialist and also scanned some other boards but apparently in Canada we don't take the measurements the same way you do in the states... During the day we have been able to keep him off his flat spot pretty much completely. He is getting good at sitting up and is really starting to enjoy tummy time. THe only time he is on his back is in the car seat which I really try to minimize whereever possible. Thank you so much again for your response, it was helpful Vickie Mother of Nate - almost 5 months, mild plagio and mild tort > > > > Hello everyone. Guest guest
Maybe a sleepcurve mattress is something to look at as the dip across it into which the head falls naturally, keeping pressure off the back of the head, may be enough to stop him from moving around the cot so much.As for when hes up and around,, have a look at the thread from a few days ago called 'exercises painful' where people have made a few suggestions to me about things to try. Guest guest
That’s about what we do also. He seems to get his head back to the right side even when we prop him up on his left side. Augh! I get up several times at night to reposition, but he ends up going right back to the flat side. Very frustrating. Guest guest
Vickie- We did repo from 4-6 months, and now we're in a helmet, but it did seem to stop the progress of his flattening and he now sleeps on the " good " side more than the " bad " . In his crib, I checked him every hour or so and moved his head. It was a major pain, but after as short as a week, he started sleeping more on the " good " side. I also put rolled up blankets under his mattress to make it easier for him to roll his head on the good side--not a major slant, but enough. To sleep on his left cheek meant rolling his head uphill; hard enough that he didn't do it as often. I moved all the fun stuff--mobile, aquarium--over the way we wanted him to look. We really pushed tummy time which he HATED, but building those muscles has helped, and now he'll stay on his tummy for 20 mintues or so--- Hope some of that might be something new0-- Betsy > > Hello everyone.
