Guest guest
Hi all, I am pre-op with Dr. Sudan in Omaha. My primary insurance (self-insured) has denied, as expected, coverage. My secondary insurer, ChampVA, will pay. I called them to get some additional information only to be given some " off the record " advice from the customer service rep. She made statements such as, " Have you researched this procedure? I've had people calling in after it was done in tears because of ..., " and, " have you tried other, not so drastic ways such as diet pills?, " to " remember, it's not reversible and those surgeons just do the surgery and if there are complications they send you to your regular dr. or a psychiatrist. " Pardon me, but is she IGNORANT or what? I finally had to say I needed to go to get off the phone. I did this after she told me about her aunt who had the surgery and was miserable. Her aunt, in her mid-30s, aged overnight after losing weight, which she has gained back. I kept trying to interject that there were variations to the type of surgery, but she said, " a gasteoplasty is a gasteoplasty. " Have any of you experienced this????? Sorry this is so long, but it made me NUTS! Bev pre-op Dr. Sudan BMI
Guest guest
Try not to be so hard on the insurance lady. Believe it or not, there are those who go through surgery without ever asking questions or researching! When I went for my consult with Dr. Booth, there was a young woman there who KNEW NOTHING except that her PCP had recommended that she have surgery and sent her to see Dr. Booth. She had no idea what she was to have done except, " surgery to lose weight " !! Dr. Booth does the top 3 surgeries - Band, RNY, DS - after she left....poor thing was floored! Dr. Booth makes sure that you understand all three surgeries and the pros and cons of each. Then you discuss which surgery you feel is right for you and why. Guess she was told that there was a " magic surgery " to make you lose weight. It is too easy to research on the internet today to just take some doctor's word for it! We MUST take more responsibility for our own health!!
