Hi Mimi,

Autumn is also 13 mos and they decided to start her on periactin

2 1/2 mos ago. She has has no weight jump, no noticable weight gain,

nothing. They started her on 1/2 tsp before breakfast and 1/2tsp

before dinner (30 minutes). Then it was upped to 1/2 tsp 3 time a

day, didn't work either, at least noticably. We decided to keep her

on 1/2 tsp twice for a while over time to see if any difference, none

so far. Not to say this won't work for Isaac, though. It seems to

work for a lot of kids here. Autumn's docs aren't big fans of it and

they say they havn't really noticed it helping too much in a lot of

kids....so who knows. She had no no real noticable side affects.

There was one small thing though, but the docs said could have been

chance or it could have just helped her get back into her normal

routine. She had tried to stop napping before I started her on it,

and the moment she began periactin, she started taking super long

afternoon naps with no problem. I took her off of it for 2 weeks to

see if her naps would change or if I saw a decrease in appetite,

nothing changed, and we went back on it and it has been the same ever

since. Right now being pregnant with #4, I LOVE her nap time!

Autumn is also 50% for head circ and body/weight below the 3%

charts.

Good luck with the periactin. I hope I havn't discouraged you, it

does work with a lot of kids!

hey mimi!!

dr h put christopher on periactin last april. he gained 1lb a month

for the first 3 months. when we had our recent visit in jan he had

gained a total of over 3 lbs and grew over 2 " just from being on the

periactin and pushing the calories!!! he doesnt seam to be bother

by the periactin, the only time is if for some reason he misses more

then 2 doses then he can get a headache. and every once in awhile

(usually towards the end of the week) he will get really sleepy and

sleep for 12hrs straight!!! (then again they say you grow when you

are sleeping so i guess he's growing!!!) good luck!!!

Hey Mimi,

Dalia has been on it for a few months and it works for a couple of

weeks and then it stopped. At the advice of others on this board,

we now give it for 2 weeks and then off for a week. This seems to

work. Dalia takes 1.5 cc 3 x/day, 45 min before each meal. When we

first start it she seems to be more cranky and tired for a couple of

days.

The first time we tried it she gained 1 lb in 3 weeks..now, she goes

to the doctor on Monday, so we'll see how she has done. She feels

heavier and looks taller, but who knows.

It does make her drink more Pediasure and eat a little more baby

food, but it doesn't make her want to eat new textures or anything

different...but, this makes sense. We need therapy to help the

sensory/gagging issue....

Dalia is also around 25% for head and below 3% for weight and I

think she is actually just barely on the chart for height now.

Good luck and e-mail me if you have more specific questions.

Sheryl (Dalia, SGA, 15 months, 16lbs, 27in at last checkup)
